I really like this track, with some really interesting lyrics. However, during the middle I feel his just rambling without substance.

However, like it.

Always enjoyed attitude prince.

That bass, don’t know why, but I get Bump Squad vibes. Keys throughout sound very 2004/2005 era.

Listening to this on headphones and woooooooaooooooah.... this is a stone. Cold. Jam.

Really loving it.

Can't understand some of you folks.... course it's the lead song for the project. It's not a conventional single... singles are barely a thing anymore anyway.... and when an artist is deceased they're - for the most part - not going to have 'hits' in the conventional sense anyway.... but it's a promotional song for the upcoming project.... that's easy to understand, isn't it?

It's going to sell mostly to the already-converted. Very few new listeners are going to be pulled in by this, that's not the point of it...

And are people really confused by 'what he's trying to say' here?

I agree with the Sign O The Times connection... it's a different type of song to that, of course, but how many of you out there really understood every single word of the 'message' of Sign O The Times, (the song)?

Anyway, I think it's a strong track, and I love the production and sound, far more rich, organic and interesting to me than the sound of 20Ten, for example.

I probably won't listen to it much more at the moment, as I'm an album guy, and I'd like to hear the whole album without one of the tracks being overplayed in my head.... but I'm definitely looking forward to this album even more now!

And will be putting my pre-order for the deluxe edition - gotta have that black vinyl! - in with my local record shop as soon as it's up to order there. Very happy. biggrin biggrin biggrin

Also, the Orwell comment - simplistic as this is - is well played on here: the raising taxes voice over - reminiscent of the chocolate ration sequence in nineteen eighty-four. Nicely done.

Preachy boilerplate funk with a checked-out delivery. Hope this isn't indicative of the album quality.

Really glad something like this is what is released post his passing. Something meaningful that adds to his legacy instead of a silly pop song.

hope someone will see this...

at 2:31, on the right channel, there's ladies speaking in reverse..

this obviously made me curious so i used audacity to reverse it

it kinda sounds like "clear the channel of God's house. clear the channel of facts. clear(?) the channel of sin! clear the channel!"

Quite the contrast between this song and “Free” on 1999.

NO!

W2A is boring. I listened to it twice, and I think that's enough for a lifetime.

disagree. i'm on my 10th or so listen and still hearing new things that pop out, give it time, let it sink in... and most importantly think of it as the opening track to an album with potentially even better tracks on it!

Toward the beginning of the track, you hear (Liv?) say "This message is brought to you by Ziacom (a play on Viacom). "Clear the channel of Ziacom. Clear the channel of facts. Clear the channel of sin. Clear the channel". Direct reference to Clear Channel buying stations from Viacom Radio and Viacom being the main reason why when BET and MTV were bought out by Viacom, the music became less of a focus. It's all interconnected.

Overall, while it's always nice to hear unheard Prince music - to hear his voice, his guitars, etc. again, ... I'm not that impressed with the song. It's just another 2000s mid-tempo rant featuring all of Prince's usual conspiracy-theory-leaning quirkisms - a theme he got a stuck on ad nauseam after the WB feud. File it under "poor man's version of United States of Division / Ol' Skool Company".

That said, from a historian's point of view, this will be a fascinating release irresepective of the quality of the songs themselves - i.e. to finally hear the missing link between 20Ten and Art Official Age as it was originally envisioned.

This is one of those songs that I won’t be able to listen to all the time, but if I’m in the right kind of mood it will be good to hear.

nah

while i somewhat like the substance of "Welcome 2 America" a bit more (although i like the patriotism in Free... just because evil people run things, doesn't mean we can't like the idea of how America is suppose to be i.e equality, freedom for all, etc) based on music alone, Free is the better track

10 years ago people thought that those who claim that "the world is run by pedos" were 'conspiricy theorists'

in 2019 Jeffrey Epstien killed himself (was likely murdered) in prison and was in prison because he was charged for sex trafficking children; he owned a certain island and invited many rich people to come stay and its been said that he'd blackmail many prominent figures in the world...

so what is a consipracy theory? because many things that were 'nutty conspiracy theories' 10, 20, 30 years ago are front page news today.

Prince was a true skeptic. I dig that.

Perhaps it means I’m poor, but I like this a lot better than those songs. I couldn’t stand those songs. And the production is miles better.

This " Song" Is everything I hate from that era.

Prince doesn't even bother to do the chorus and background vocals anymore.
It fails to be sonically interesting, and the chorist is not on the level of Rosie Gaines, that s the least we could say
biggrin

Then the " Video" Is terrible. Can't they at least release archives video, make an assemblage with the live performance, or a lyric viseo like they do with every other artists?
Common, that doesn't cost a thing! Why is the estate being such a miser?

Same thing could have been done for, let s say, Everybody Wants what they Don't Got, it was perfect for a little cute lyrics video, to give tribute yo the SOTT music viseo and to promote the SDE.

Or editing the footage with Miles Davis to promote Can I play with U?
