Has anyone ever worn Dr Scholl's brand shoes though? The padded sandals are heaven. The clogs were a death trap though even though the shape made sense. I'm not talking about odor eaters or in soles, I'm talking about real deal foot support products no prescription necessary.

I've tried Dr. Scholl's insoles, and they nearly crippled me. Not my brand of choice. If Prince wasn't in pain before them he would have been after.

That's so odd I mean they have a machine in the store that evaluates the feet and the curve and everything it's supposed to be an exact science something that basically holds us up and I know their reputation. You could be a peg legged wrapped foot geisha and I bet they have a product for you. I better get a call from one of their rep's soon.

What about dry cracked feet with edema like that supposedly diabetics suffer with, is there any advice on that?

Judith I believe said he was on pain meds for his hands. I assume perhaps arthritis or RPI from years of dexterity on his instruments. If he didn't take his pills he'd have to to give up playing. So the pills became both a pain relief and a way to hold on to his life and career. I try not to read about his maladies and end of life as it makes me sad but it certainly made the departure of sanity in getting any old pills in so much more understandable. I suppose my question is how long had he been struggling and at what point does career really win out over pain? None of us will ever know but it's made me really reflect on the pressure we are put under to perform in any arena when we aren't feeling good in ourselves. I feel sad for prince today. [Edited 4/7/21 2:04am]

I understand your sentiments and feel the same way. He was on that treadmill of 'the show must go on' and not able to get off. I think of the music college he wanted to duild next to PP, with visiting musicians to lecture and himself to teach. He loved teaching and helping others to achieve. What a terrible loss we have experienced.

If the college was built, how do we know it would be run as he wanted? Are there any notes? Who would know best? I'm sure Sheila e will say she knows (rolleyes) although she'd be a great drum teacher I bet. It would be nice for prince alumni to teach. I think 3eg would be a great pick.

i have pain in my hands when i play guitar or keyboards for 5,6,7 hours a day.so i doubt Prince had arthritis.didn't see any mobility problem in his guitar playing ,but i do think that vox guitar neck was giving Prince hard time

As adult fans, it is my wish that we put aside our need to mythologize Prince and his choices.

Opiates are not the treatment of choice for arthritis. Prince played his instruments much more often than most musicians. Most of them naturally take breaks, go on vacation w/o their instruments, etc.

When Judith asked him to stop taking the drugs after she went through that harrowing plane descent,

this is the story Prince told her. For repetitive stress from too much of anything, he could have looked into a less banging piano style, hand rest, ice, elevation, temporary braces, (I wore them @ one point) non-opiate anti-inflammatories, etc. He had tons of choices. But, he was an addict and needed to use.

Hi Margot, I'm guessing arthritis the article wasnt clear on the exact cause of the pain, but yes I agree

I don't know if and when Prince was in pain. But I know that Prince looked super healthy and fit between 2009 and 2012. something happened from 2013 and we will probably never find out what.

im sorry if i offend anyone, but im not sure i completely believe Judith Hill's stories...there seem to be some contradictions...i just wish either Kirk Johnson would have spoken up to corroborate her statments, or that she just maintained her silence as he did...between those two (in the Moline incident), one aint saying shit about it, and the other one wont shut up about it... seems sketchy in the least...

Prince being a multi instrumentalist would actually minimise RSI, since you use your hands in different ways when playing the guitar or piano.

yep...in fact, its even recommended by some physicians for people who suffer from arthritic conditions in their hands/fingers

I wanted to soften my stance on Prince's hand pain.

I still stand behind not using high dose opiates for hand pain or arthritis, but IMO, he was very ill and was self-medicating for other reasons, which was his right.

I think she was truthful w/the cops. I perceived her, at that time, to not be the brightest bulb and

perhaps still shell-shocked. She was also not in the loop re: Prince's drug connections. Kirk, on the other hand, is sitting on a mountain of Intel.

Now, 5 years after his death, I think she is either being coached(or acting independently) to tie

her current record debuts w/ Prince's death.

My only experience is with the off the shelf product, and part of the problem is you have to self diagnose your pain and pick out the right product. Like you say, they have options for every kind of pain.

I get re-occuring plantar fasciitis (a common athletic injury that can get irritated and take a long ass time to heal itself, assuming you don't need surgery), from wearing broken down Dr. Martens and walking crazy disances. But plantar fasciitis pads always hurt me so I get the general all purpose insoles, and try to find ones with hard support, like a layer of plastic.

Not every store has the machines, but all they do is have you stand on a pad and it asks you questions, then they tell you which pad to buy off their display (if they're not special order), but they're expensive. So invevitably you walk back over to the Dr. Scholl's display and buy the $12 pads.

Prince was kinda frugal in weird ways and we can safely assume his issues involved arches from the heels, and those don't come off the rack.

I don't know much about Edema, but I have family who suffer from it, and it's miserable. Try shea butter if you haven't already. There are whole sections for lotions marked for edema all of a sudden so somehing must be going on that everyone's getting it.

Clearly he was addicted, he overdosed more than once and we know the cause of death.

Arthritic pain is just human, and it can be a sublte barely notice it sensation, or so major a person can't move without needing pain killers. Nobody is mistaking opiates as a perscribed remedy in either case, but that doesn't mean he didn't take it for that, and it also doesn't mean he didn't take them because he was addicted either way.

Wow so we're all officially fighting over Prince's penis now. I feel like that's every man's dream and poor Prince had to go all ape shit crazy and now he's missing out on the single most best part of his life! Lack of that not painkillers is what probably did him in.

I think the idea the splts and stage shows did him in is overblown. Arthiritic pain hits us all, and genetics have a lot to do with it. He played basketball, he rehearsed all day and all night long, he traveled a lot, he wore heels, any of those things alone would have been enough to contribute. He had weird eating habits, he kept an abnormal sleep schedule... all of that contributes.

Like the commercial says "a body in motion, stays in motion", which is likely one reason why he was riding the bicycle around.

It can hit you at any age.

nah man. watch them shows from purple rain, parade and lovesexy. shit even the nude and diamonds and pearls tours are extremely full of dancing splits, jumps from high distances. not to mention he was in heels doing all this. That shit ain't no joke. add in him playing ALL those different instruments for 50 years +. Yes arthritis hits people eventually but you definitely have to factor in everything else

Well I can tell you that without proper technique (of which I did have and was taught), it can lead to a lot of harm. I'm a piano player who went to Berklee and I learned the hard way that if you don't learn how to sit at a piano and move your fingers and hands properly, it will lead to problems down the road. It's the smae with any instrument.

I'm not saying that Prince had those problems but Aleve will not fix the problems - any pill only keeps the pain at bay and doesn't address the real problem. The Western world has been a pop-a-pill culture for way too long.

I agree. I'm a nurse and feel that Prince and others over-used opiates for conditions that can be treated w/less which is why I mentioned Aleve.

Personally, I think he was someone who was too impatient to learn proper technique and had a 'show-must-go-on' sensibility. I really don't think he wanted too many constraints and that included

sleep, easing on the opiates, etc.

He was self taught so that might be part of it. He couldn't read either. He said it would change the way he wrote and played music so he never bothered. As far as the pills, he knew those would work fast for what he needed to do.

I think it's a factor, but the idea someone had to cite a reason he had hip pain or arthritic pain was pretty silly to begin with. Sheila and others tried to give fans answers for things and it stuck. What you definitely have to factor in is it wasn't just the stage show and lifestyle that fans saw on stage. I'll say it again, basketball or the heels alone could do it.
