I was one of the most annoying orgers making countless threads about how great Prince is on guitar.I thought those who don't share my view just don't get it.but things change and as i started paying more attention to some more proficient musicians i came to a realisation that Prince as a musician is way too overrated.i see people saying :imagine Prince and Herbie Hancock playing together or i see a topic here "the day Prince changed the world of electric guitar.Prince did push the envelope in the realm of pop music but every attempt he did outside of pop wss far from good.Prince's jazz projects are like kindergarden jazx compared to Mahavishnu Orchestra or Return To Forever.Prince is a good rhythm guitar player but as a soloist his playing is average or even bellow.his piano playing is overhyped and in reality i"ve seen him playing live piano parts that wete under rehearsed.I love Prince and his music but it's hard for me to pretend that he is amazing on guitar bass piano and drums when he is just average even to pop music standards. [Edited 4/3/21 17:23pm]

prince was a musician who used his functionality to realise his imagination.. he was as good as he needed to be for what he heard in his head. There are few better at that..and that he the capacity to do that singulary was rare and sometimes gets into tedious crap bout whos better..he was gifted in number of mediums in modern culture. There will always be people who think all sorts of shite ..hes good on a number of instruements .. Madhouse and stuff.. well it didnt work ..nor did the rap ..but he moved on

Now you record and produce on your own, now you dance like a god in High Heels, now you use your voice from low to high only matched by Mariah Carey, now you pull out a blistering guitar solo while spinning, now you record Sign "O" The Times on your own, now you Lay down harmonies on Adore, now you move music forward without following trends, now you dip into any genre fearless. I can move on. What is your problem? Bait click topic and Troll topic at the same time.

My problem are people like you who totally misunderstood what i wrote so far.Nobody takes away that from Prince.Nobody didn't say he was not a 1 man band producer arranger, great singer, lyricist, acrobat on stage.Nobody said he was not great but he was not amazing in music theory,he was terrible in attempts of making classical and he was like kindergarden in jazz fusion

But wasnt he trying to funk up his jazz?? or put it into his realm?

This thread, although sounded negative at first, had some useful comments about how great musicians praised Prince as a musician/instrumentalist. I know about some, but I would love to see more comments of great musicians about him.

This from someone who finds Bill Connors more exciting than Eddie Van Halen... even posting a video on here to help us sleep. Herbie Hancock -- not someone you actually listen to, or have any interest in spending time discussing on a fusion jazz forum.

Well i'm glad that you find 1 trick pentatonic pony Eddie Van Halen more exciting.thats because you are not a musician and you don't know whats going on there.Bill is like on a much higher plane than Eddie.Bill actually plays different solo everytime while Eddie played the same solo his whole career.

who cares what he likes.he is here only to provoke. I'm still waiting on him to accept my offer for a guitar duel. So he can show me how he does his thing and how musical education don't matter and i will show him the opposite smile but Moody don't have the guts to accept simply because a) he cant play b) he can play but at a very rudamentary level. So Moody when are we gonna do that guitar duel.Did you chicken out or what? i'll b nice i promise .lol

Well, yeah, I've realized multiple times he's not here to have a rational and well-balanced discussion, that's certain. I was just trying to lighten up the mood. On the other hand, I'm not sure a "musical duel" between the two of you would solve any interesting problem.

.

Anyway, I think pretty much everything has been said about the original question, so I won't repeat myself and I'll leave this thread alone. wink

In my circles "u are in love with Prince and if he farts you would say it's not a regular fart.it's a purple fart" would constitute harassment. I have posted opinions, including opinions from respected musicians regarding Prince -- none of us are interested in your chopsticks. If you find Prince to be overrated and prefer Bill Connors, then the logical ask is why aren't you on a Connors or jazz forum.

I understood that you thought Bill Connors was much better -- and hence my comments. He is so much better that you have no interest in posting on his work in a jazz forum. And you are the one with a hurt soul -- or you won't be harrassing everyone who disagrees with you or calls you out. And just a reminder that Prince.org doesn't belong to you. Enjoy that Prince Covid mask... seems more your speed than his music.
