It would have been beautiful to have an Under the Cherry Moon soundtrack and a Parade album

It's interesting that David z has said that Prince really only added his vocal and a guitar part when he took the song back and that Most of the production is not Prince's.

Hey, my post was on topic too! I wrote:

"From the standpoint of muscial style, Kiss (a techno-funk song) doesn't fit with the rest of the album (accoustic and even orchestral pop). Imagine a non-fan or casual fan who hears Kiss on the radio, loves that techno sound, and runs out to buy the album expecting it to be full similar tracks. They would have been shocked and, depending on their disposition, possibly disappointed by what they found."

Ha! Sorry, yes, quite right! I missed you out in my 'good behaviour' list! lol lol lol

All - Mark Brown / BrownMark goes into great detail on the story of how Kiss was recorded in the "How Can U Just Leave Me Standing?" podcast - Ep2. It's well worth a listen.

great interview but in my opinion Kiss Composed and performed by Prince,Arranged by David Z and Brown Mark, additional arrangement by Prince .back vox Mazarati

That acoustic demo had melody and harmony done by Prince

Fair play on that score.

Final part of the interview is now out - where Mark talks about his final conversation with Prince at Paisley Park and his favourite memories of him.

SoulAlive

I remember a less-than-glowing review of Parade where the critic wrote “for Prince fans who think that “Kiss” is an indication that Prince is returning to his falsetto funk roots, think again” biggrin

David Z notes the history well in Sound on Sound. Prince handed melody, lyrics and basic song structure to David Z -- David and Maz came up with something nobody would listen to twice, but Prince found the gem of coolness in David's funky intro and backing vocal arrangement for which he was credited. Prince took the tune, stripped it down to its bare bones, removed bass, added signature guitar and falsetto elements and then forced WB to put it out, because they thought it was crap.
