It's a really good record.

I remember how fresh and new it sounded on first listen and how fun it was to hear Prince record something in a style he'd never given us before. I can take or leave a few tracks but "Comeback" can still make me cry and the 1, 2 opening tracks still floor me.

The Truth is a fine record. I'd give it an 8 but it's not Prince in his comfort zone at all. It's the closest he's come to sounding like Dylan or those acoustic troubadour songwriters.

ONe thing that always strikes e about this album is how great Prince's voice and vocal delivery is where it's really allowed to take center stage.

^ Well part of the reason for that is probably if you brickwall the sound over the acoustic guitar it's gonna get drowned out. So production is thin.

Im looking forward to listening to this on record. I loved it when i first heard it. Although I really think that the prices charged for new vinyl is A ripoff. I try and do all my buying in 2nd hand shops or record fairs, but will have to pay out for this one.

I hope it is not purple vinyl, they seem to want overuse this color where it has absolutely no relavence. ONA for example, that vinyl should have been ivory white or clear white, perhaps with the black piano notes moving out an inch or so from center. THAT would have been relavent.

Have not really thought about what they should do with The Truth, any ideas? I just know it should not be purple.

They got SOTT and TRC vinyl right though.

Agreed. He had colour themes for so many projects/eras. The purple is totally overused.

I’ve never participated in RSD before. Does this mean that the titles released on record store day are only available in limited amounts just for that day? Or will the estate be also be releasing it at a later date?

Versace Exp. was later released on CD (vinyl?), so I guess this will be too.

My thoughts are that the RSD exclusive will be purple and the STORE version will be regular black as that would answer why the description states purple vinyl

The "Purple" has been omitted from the RSD website so it sure looks like black vinyl for the RSD maybe the Purple is for the STORE as i'm sure there will be some difference from the RSD unless it's just a limited exclusive

With RSD the quantity is listed on their website and depending on your location and stores you have that deal with RSD then the better the chance of getting it, this release has 13,000 made which means you shouldn't have a problem finding it though be warned there are some big stores with RSD that sometimes get a whole bunch but 13,000 is a safe bet but I wouldn't wait past that day if you want it right away. Also with RSD there are two Billings, one is Record Store Day exclusive which means this is it no plans for a future release, but if it says Record Store Day First that means a label will eventually be releasing it usually a few months down the line.

Just put it on my wish list at the store where I usually get these things.

Why is the song Circle Of Amour mispelled "Circle Of Amore"? Is it just an error?

The word Amour is French, Amore is in Italian

Sì, grazie... Mi chiedevo proprio come mai fosse scritto in italiano anziché in francese.

The 1st time I heard The Truth album in its entirely, I said at the time it was THE worst Prince album ever! disbelief lol

.

Granted, it was basically Prince's very own MTV Unplugged episode without any involvement of MTV or ViaCON for that matter. The title track & Circle Of Amore were THE only 2 tracks that were good [IMO]. But the album overall was disappointing to my ears because Prince's music without electricity was just not natural!

.

But these days [it's 2021 at the time of posting!], at an older mature age of 46, I can listening to The Truth album occasionally out of the habit of listening to classical, jazz, & blues more than before. Maybe it was not so much the fault of Prince as much as it may have been more my fault because I was not ready in the 1990's for that album as much as I was finally ready for it in the 2020's. cool

Prince last albums hardly sold 100.000 worldwide. Had Prince lived, it would have been worst and worst. He wasn't able to promote anything anymore. He wasn't even invited on TV anymore.

Huh. That's a new one.

First time I heard it I was floored by the first 2 tracks and then kinda not for the rest. For some reason I wrote it off as a novelty and decided it was overrated but I decided over time that I was wrong. The front and back end of the album are stellar, I think some of the middle tracks drag it down a peg but for those of us who like "being orginal and different" Prince, he'd never really released an album like this before (or one since actually) and it stands out that way in his catalog. Similar to ONA Piano or even NEWS to a lesser extent.

Between this and acoustic show sets from the Musicology tour, I wish he'd done a few more albums in this vein. Remembering what he did with "Forever in My Life" way back and that song would fit in fine here.

I listened to Comeback the day my dad died, cried and don't think I've listened to it since. I should break it out.

Yea, def a great track. I can see how that song could pull some tears, especially considering the circumstance. Sorry to hear about your Dad.
