Prince reference in last Sananda Maitreya video, Pie

In the last Sananda videoclip, Pie, there is a visual reference to Prince near Beatles, Presley, Hendrix and Beethoven.

Interesting, he's doing his own end of life themed song. (Which I feel Bowie and Prince did to the extreme in the form of entire albums)

Is it me, or does his normally super-beautiful voice sound compressed / distorted on this song?

There's a preoccupation with mortality on several songs on the Pandora's Playhouse album.

BTW in this interview https://www.thewaymagazin...ro-duetto/ Sananda talk again about his duet with Prince:

.

There is a collaboration recorded in the 90s that lies in the archives and maybe one day it will come out.

And there is also an instrumental track "Prince!" in his last album, dedicated to Prince.

Yuck. Just about everything post "Wildcard" has been borderline embarrassing. Such a waste of a amazing Soul voice. Sananda, when will you just do a straight classic Soul album?

Is he unwell I wonder?

Such talent. So many people the casual radio listener miss out on him after his name change from ttd to sm. Just one of those things but is a shame

There is a preoccupation with mortality on a handful of songs on the Pandora's Playhouse album, but lyrically in 'Pie' Sananda is demanding his 'pie in the sky' before he dies. So although the song does ruminate a little on death and the video perhaps more so in part of the animated sequence, I don't personally perceive it as an 'end of life' song. If anything, it's more an anthem for aging dreamers.

I'll just identify myself as a great Sananda fan. The video is full of rather young adult models attaching to a wall still drawings of the shapes and forms that float around in the dream-like animation. I think the song's theme is more the universal idea of enjoying the fruits of life and chasing one's dreams instead of waiting for some gift or reward at the end. It was stimulating to see the submarine Sananda was piloting full of aged and dead musician-passengers that he admires!

The album is recorded/mixed/mastered in a very amateurish way that spoils the listening experience. Even the few good songs almost sound unlistenable to me 😕

Such a shame for such a great talent. Sananda would deserve AT LEAST to be working with a professional sound engineer not someone who just over compresses every song to death.

Prince was the godfather of one of Sanandas children ?

Never heard...

Quote out of: Pandora's PlayHouse by Sa...facts.com)

I wanted to write something simple and heartfelt to honor the wonderful life of my friend and mentor, PRINCE.

There isn't much more to say about it. He was like THE BIG BROTHER YOU DREAM OF HAVING. The one who went before you and made it easier for you to be yourself. He was the idol that proved. Other idols were shady. Master Jackson HATED ME, HARD! But particularly masters Prince and Miles embraced me like a LONG LOST SOUL. One that they knew NEEDED it.

And I've only grown closer to them in the years as I HAVE GROWN. ASTRAL TWINS ARE USUALLY BORN WITHIN four years of the other. And more than anyone, I always felt that Maestro Prince Rogers Nelson and I were fathered by the same spirit. And we are STILL catching up to the genius of his musical legacy and stunning musicianship. We are lucky to have had him. He is the godfather to one of my children so he remains a part of my family. I MISS HIM AND DEDICATE THIS SONG TO HIS MEMORY.

Back in 1987 I was on this concert, which was broadcasted.

It was lot of fun.

But after 3 records I lost interest..

Terence Trent D'Arby - Li... - YouTube

I think Glenn Gregory & Martyn Ware (formerly Heaven 17), who were part of TTDs first album were musicians on the stage.

I've only heard this song but haven't heard the album but I feel the same. The song is juuuuust about there. It needs some tightening up. He could use a Rick Rubin or a Jack Antonoff. Great artists have dips which is ok I guess but this has been dipping for a while now. I follow TTD as much as I can but it feels erratic. I actually don't know which titles are albums. It feels like Prince circa 1994 - 1997.

That's the thing. He didn't want to be categorized as a soul artist. I wouldn't say that everything after Wildcard is embarrassing, but some stuff is. Just like with Prince, it's quantity over quality.

It's been like that since he went indie. Everything had to be done on the cheap.

I'm a pretty big fan of Sananda/TTD but if I'm being honest this new song sounds like it was recorded with a butter knife and candle wax. He went way too far off the rails in his recent efforts. His stuff sounds like pretentious crap and now it isn't even well recorded.

It's the most glorious "garage" music not "garbage." Not pretentious.

And he stuck Prince in the video along with the pie (pi). Dude is in love with symbology.

cool
