That wasn't the point in the first place. It was about him finally bringing alternate personas to the recordings himself.

But hey, "context", it only matters if you're paying attention.

It may have been me. I was attempting to generate more conversation about alter egos and

linked SpookyElectric and Camille incorrectly.

Dream Factory, Crystal Ball uses the speed up vocals too

.

But I'm remembering (as I always seem to forget) that the Camille persona is also linked to the Black album which doesn't use the speed up voice, except on the Camille project extract RockHardInAFunkyPlace

.

He painted a picture
called Le Grind --
hittin' so tall.
And then Cindy C --
THE vogue fantasy.
Horns & vocals 2 die 4.
Lollipops -- in yours!

Stroke after stroke callin' all others a joke.
Superfunkycalifragisexi.

Camille rocked hard in a funky place.

Stuck his long funk in competition's face.

Tuesday came. Blue Tuesday.
His canvas full, and lying on the table,

Camille mustered
all the hate that he was able.

Hate 4 the ones who ever doubted his game.

Hate 4 the ones who ever doubted his name.

"Tis nobody funkier -- let the Black Album fly."

Spooky Electric was talking, Camille started 2 cry.

Tricked.
A fool he had been.

In the lowest utmostest.

He had allowed
the dark side of him 2 create something evil.

2 Nigs United
4 West Compton.

Camille and his ego.

Bob George.

I am not really that familiar w/Camille in Prince's work but from what I have read, Camille seemed to be the alter-ego that was more 'aggressive' for lack of a better word. Why not a masculine name?

how about Austra Chanel, his alter ego for Madhouse...

Love Life, L♥vesexy -- the feeling
u get when u fall in love, not with a girl or boy but with the
heavens above. L♥vesexy -- endorphin. Camille figured out
what 2 feel. Glam Slam Escape -- the Sexuality Real.
Tonight we make love with only words. Girls first. This
feeling's so good in every single way.

All I've got right now is Prince had a mountain of personas. Makes me wonder about him sometimes. Yet sometimes I wonder if these are truly pieces of himself or reflections of the people he observed, which may be why he didn't carry some thigs to a conclusion.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...

This moment is all there is...

I love when folks try to tie their albums to a larger theme by using the song titles in some kind of "Mission Statement", or come up with wild acronyms. 😂🤣😅

Fascinating creative process.

Amazing read!

Not sure if Camille Claudel played any part in Prince's construction of the Camille persona. Camille Claudel (1864–1943) was a female french sculptor that, due to her "unladylike behavior" related to her craft had to endure a lot of gender pressure and sadly became mentally ill and lived secluded for the rest of her life.

"those kind of cars don't pass you everyday"

Quote from DMSR by Per Nilsen (p 217):

"Prince has hinted that the name was inspired by Herculine Barbin, a famous 19th century hermaphrodite who was nicknamed Camille. Though raised as a female, in his early twenties Barbin was ruled to be legally male."

YAHOO INTERNET LIFE * October 1997

Sites O' the Times

Artists have always been interested in
new technologies. DaVinci was.
Duchamp was. And the Artist is, too.

By Ben Greenman

YIL: This may sound nuts, but does the Camille alter ego, which you used on Sign O' the Times, have anything to do with the famous nineteenth-century hermaphrodite Herculine Barbin, who was nicknamed Camille? If so, my younger brother will be very, very happy, since he has spent roughly a decade trying to convince me of this.

TA: Your brother is very wise.

I remember that shocking answer... back in the daze of frequenting alt.music.prince
