Why dont they set a website up to buy\download live concert recordings, rehearsals and the like. We know there are tons of em. And release super deluxes, maybe one a year. They could have money coming in all the time. They must have everything listed by now surely!

So I was right from the start. Something to be announced in march won't be released until mid-june. Sony has given up reissues ( CB won't happen) but will still keep on releasing these sub-par reissues such as The Truth on event such as RSD. Less costly, and possibility to overprice it for a few thousand of hardcore fans.

Opinions are fine, but let's keep acknowledging that that's what they are, can we please?

Your 'CB won't happen' has no basis in fact or reality. Neither does your 'Sony has given up reissues'. It's simply guesswork, hearsay. Unless you work for Sony and have been involved with this decision?

I believe the reissues and CB will happen. I don't have any facts to back it up right now, except to say that it makes much more sense to have Prince's full catalogue in print than it does to leave it out of print, even if it's on a longer timeline than we think/would like.

They will all come out eventually. That's my opinion sure, but at this point, reissues have been forthcoming, and I see no evidence to suggest that that will stop.

Please just keep clear on what's simply hearsay and what's actually true. Thanks. biggrin

I think about this literally all the time. I just don't know what's stopping them. If I'm remembering correctly, this was even asked of Michael Howe in an interview and he said this kind of idea had been discussed. Hell, I'm listening to the Bob Dylan "Cutting Edge" album from the Columbia Records boot series. It's over 11 hours of outtakes, demos, and unreleased nuggets. Can you imagine if the Estate delivered anything close to this?

Ten years?
Do you really believe there has been no reissues or release in music since 14 months?

The Prince Estate should look at what Bowie's estate is doing and emulate that (except selling a boxset in 6 parts with the case a seperate purchase). There's always new Bowie material either out or imminent.

Although I guess some of that comes down to Bowie being a better businessman, knowing he was on his way out and getting his estate in order before he died.

I think I read I while ago somewhere that thats what Tyka and a few others in the family want to do so I dont know what the problem is. Maybe having to work out if they have to pay others in the band if they do that. I dont know, but us hardcore fans would pay out for this stuff.

with all due respect...

the prince SDE's pale in comparison to what bob's team is doing, it's nowhere close. one is a deep dive, hold back nothing type of affair that realizes how important bob's contribution to the world and those recordings are and thus wants to present them in a historical and academic context while also releasing tiered down versions for those who don't want it literally all.

and the prince sde's are.... fun sets that i've gotten a lot of listening out of, but it's nowhere close to what they could and should be doing, the omissions on SOTT SDE alone are enough to make me throw up, it shows me that they don't have a sincere appreciation for the material and in this case it's more about "ok how can we save this one for originals II/sott super superdeluxe/whatever bullshit project we have cooking up next year"

only to then decide they are not going to continue the Originals 'series' etc etc.

To be fair those giant completist Dylan box sets were to preserve Columbias copyright over that material as they were coming up to 50 years since recorded. If they hadn't published them they would have become public domain - so they were able to extend them for 70 years.
So with the same kind of logic we'll start seeing these kind of collections from early next decade neutral

Might just stream D&P SDE. Guess it'll depend on how vital the dvd is. God knows, I only cracked open the SOTT book once, and that album means a lot more to me than D&P does...

I LOVE Diamonds and Pearls and cannot wait for the SDE. I will be heartbroken if it doesn't happen. LONG LIVE PHYSICAL MEDIA!

Why am I always right?
On Schkopi they are now saying CB is delayed to late 2021, to give space to W2A...
As if Sony didn't have time to release a reissue between may 2020 and December 2021...

And they are now saying W2A will be announced on the 21th April, and that D&P will be released in September.

That's really unbelievable in term of dates.

So they would release W2A in July ?

And the ultra expensive D&P in September?

And the non-such an event and bad-timed CB in December?
Why a wait of one year for a reissue?

That still seems really unrealistic to me.
