Grammys have nothing to do with genius. It's a popularity contest. Pop music is entertaining, but there is music out their by actual geniuses that you'll never hear. Hell, there is a single Finnish composer who died in 2016 that all the grammy winners from the past 30 years couldn't even touch.

Hendrix, George Clinton and Marley won ZERO Grammys.

Gaye and James Brown won 1-2.

Are they 2nd Level Geniuses? Lol...Nope.

The grammy awards are voted on by your peers not fans like american music awards. That being said its hard to put Prince in the same league with Quincy Jones 28,Beyonce 24, Jay Z and Kanye West with 21! especially when u consider they did it putting out alot less music than Prince.Do u think this is a fair assesment by his peers of his talent overall?

-

Award shows these days are mere fashion shows, fake tears, horrible speeches, or just a TV format show.

-

check this :

Neil Young, had 27 nominations, and won 2.

Bob Dylan had 31 nominations, plus won 10

Bruce Springsteen had 50 nominations, won 20.

Rolling Stones had 12 nominations, won 3.

And I can go on...

-

Zero interest for awards in general tbh.

Anyway, who cares ?

These days it's mostly totally untalentent artist who can't play an instrument, let alone sing live,

but know how to wear long nails, dance, and change outfits...

-

Is shaking your ass and tits a talent ?

No.

Does one need to wear designer clothes and all the useless (mostly fake) bling-bling,

plastic faces, too white teeth and hair extentions, awefull nails for no use, childish looks,

and having a 3 minute show with too much background dancers and the usual uninspiring choreography plus a fake backing band, lip-synch, too much distracting video screens, and not to forget uninspiring copy from a copy from a copy videoclips with fifty oufit changes, to win awards ?

Yes.

Another very interesting thing... (talking about appreciatio for one's qualities, and not quantities) ;

When Prince was asked to show up and read nominees or whatever,

listen to the cheers !

-

Show me at least one where he did not stir the crowd into madness...

...or show me one appearence where he was booed.

Even when he only sold like 60K copies of a new album, or in whatever low point in his career,

it always remained the same when he showed up:

CROWDS WENT NUTS!

-

Talking about appreciations versus awards.

I would argue that having less makes him more of a genius. The grammy's are a rigged event, everyone knows it, the only one 'typically' not in the know are the artists themselves. They rise up who they want to rise up, end of story.

Real genius has nothing to do with a grammy.

Look at that Billie girl and all the grammys she has gotten, did she get them because she is a genius? Nope, she got them because the record companies and others with vested interests made it happen. It has nothing to do with talent, and everything to do with agendas.

Bach, Mozart and Beethoven won zero Grammies between them. What level are they?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Surprised John Cage's 4'33" didn't win a grammy. Why not if you can get grammys for being shit?

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

You would be very wrong to base talent or "genius" on whether or not the grammys recognized you or not.

ESPECIALLY in this world of grammys. eek

Do yourself a favor and stop putting stock into awards shows of the 21st century.

LOL smile

Serious, that is a wondrous and genius attempt for letting people understand that everything is sound, even silence. He gives you the oportunity to 'listen' to silence, knowing that every silence is different.

Sure it was a tongue in cheek approach to all seriousness of classical music

and also a kick in the butts of the elite, consuming everything with a snobbish approach.

He wanted to go beyound that and surely did.

J. Cage still is accurate today, and his 4'33'' even more so. smile

For me, what he did, is a pure search for all things sound as music.

Outing himself as a MJ cannot, funkman begs to be banned from the org. MJ's time is done. A man with sad sexual tastes and a very thin catalogue and an inability to play instruments.

His time will never be done, even when threatened little Prince fans like you can't handle that. [Edited 2/23/21 13:18pm]

Go kneel to your Golden Veal elsewherez.
"Off The Wall" will remain as the only timeless album.

Past that, the catalogue is ageing fast, with each year passing.
Try listen to "Bad", it's cringeworthy.

No, not you, Patrick.
We get it.
« HE runs eternal » (sound effects).

A few things to save from "HIStory", and then, zilch.

The problem will always be this lacking of sexuality/sensuality.
For all the noise he makes with his mouth,
Little Michael never knew much about banging.

And right there we have problem.
Wanna listen to adolescent music eternally?
Suit yourself. These Little Princes don't.

Little Michael never knew not much about banging.
Or did he, except with... ?

Uh-oh.

I'd better shut up before I get served the King Of Pop's Wrath from Beyond.

That said, Young Michael will always stay pure.
Alas, we all grow old.

As for this grammy shit, why would the intelligentsia serve the maverick?
Why would these self-congratulating lazy bitches
give prizes to a man that writes, record, produces a song a day?
They despised Prince long after the Days of Wild before the new generation took over.

Makes no sense, what a silly question.

Prince left a galaxy of stuff to listen to,
some concerts are simply amazing,
some live performances mind-boggling.

I tried to watch MJ at Wembley,
since it's the only shit there is. Well, yawn.
Damn, what's he doing?
Playback? MJ is faking it live?

Lawd (the genuine one) have mercy.

Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen and The Beach Boys never won Grannies. Like the song says 'People are Strange', and no, The Doors never won a Granny either.

To be fair none of the performances from this year's Grammys neccesarily fit that pre-concieved notion. I don't think Grammy noms are an inidcation of genius in any way, but if you approach the recent ones with an open mind you may find yourself enjoying more than what you think
