Divinity the Dove has Passed

We are saddened to announce the passing of Divinity, the female white dove once owned by Prince, following a recent decline in health due to age. Divinity "was one of the enduring links to Prince for thousands of fans. She will be missed” said our Executive Director, Alan Seiffert. A dove ? At least 37 years old ?

I read that a pigeon can get up to 25/30 years old, only in perfect conditions.

This might be a second one, who knows.

-

That dove cried in captivity, all it's life.

Such a shame to keep birds like that.

I don't like that.

Awww. That bird lived a long time. They stay so quiet when folks are wandering through.

For a man who talked of freedom and advocated animal rights it seems odd that he would have caged birds. If, there is an afterlife for animals I bet it is happy to be out of that fucking cage!

OK.

So it was his second Divinity.

Or even his third.

-

Still I don't like animals in captivity.

Certainly not birds.

When I visited Paisley Park a few years ago the doves were indeed quiet, so quiet that I had totally forgotten that there was a large cage with doves inside up on the upper level of the atrium. We had just started our tour and were standing in the atrium looking up at the urn. I was overcome with emotion and had tears running down my cheeks with my arms around my best friend and my niece. Our tour guide had stepped aside to let us have our 'moment' and after I had gotten control of myself she came back over to us and said 'Listen! The doves are cooing! They've been silent all day and now they are cooing!' Indeed they were cooing rather loudly. I like to believe that Prince's spirit was coming through them telling us that everything was alright and he was at Peace with the Universe.

No, they stated when Majesty died not too long after Prince. It's even in the video about the care for the doves. And how after Majesty died they got 2 more to keep Divinity company. She held out for a long time after her mate passed considering her age.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...
