Doubtful. It was sloppily improvised. Parts of it appear in other songs, but I can't recall which at this moment. I think it was used on a protege record first. It's straight up dorian scale. Anything extra spicy is the result of his Eventide Harmonizer. If you're asking because you want to learn it I could probably make a video of me playing along. |

The Rapture guitar solo is a slowed down solo from When Doves Cry damn near note for note. __________________________________________________

So, the "Scandalous: The Rapture" solo shares parts of the same guitar solos in "Dear Michaelangelo" AND "When Doves Cry" ???
i didn't see THAT comin'!

i DO recall a snippet of the keyboard solo from WDC rehashed in "Lemon Crush", though. [Edited 2/16/21 9:22am] "Whatever skin Ur in

Took me so long to hear this similarity until someone pointed it out. I was amazed. |

That guitar solo is one of my favorite Prince moments. That whole 3 part remix, really. His last super inspired 80s moment, I think.
If it's the When Doves Cry solo slowed down, that even more briliant. |

I like it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Now that i heard this today in a traffic jam out of Frankfurt with nothing but my ears on a brand new car stereo, no, it is not.
Ever since i owned the 12" single for "Scandalous" since it's release, i've never heard WDC (what you are hearing).
Perhaps you are mistaking "WDC" for "Dear Michaelangelo"??? "Whatever skin Ur in

It has the tone of Dear Michaelangelo, but it the ending solo of WDC. Listen to both back to back and slow WDC down if you can. __________________________________________________

So, you are claiming that "Dear M" AND "WDC" share the same guitar solo?
Yes, you, joyinrep...

If memory serves, the closest he came to Frank Zappa sound on the guitar.
Poignant.
You're welcome. |

If you read correctly, the TONE is DM, but the solo is WDC __________________________________________________

The first part of the solo in "The Rapture" is clearly the same as the one in "Dear Michaelangelo".
Specifically from 2:22 to 2:47 (DM).
Anyone else wanna chime in here? [Edited 2/25/21 10:24am] "Whatever skin Ur in

It's not WDC fast or slow. It's not similar at all. |

Actually, Prince's guitar solo on "Live 4 Love" nails the tone of Frank Zappa's solo on "Dumb All Over" from the You are What You Is album as well as referencing some of the licks directly. No joke. I'm not saying Prince used the same licks on purpose, but there's only so many pentatonic box/Dorian mode licks you can do on a guitar that sounds original.
Check out the guitar solo on Live 4 Love at 5:58 and 6:17 then check out the guitar solo on Dumb All Over (I guess technically it's the intro to the track "Heavenly Bank Account" which is just the outro of "Dumb All Over") by Frank Zappa at 0:04 [Edited 3/5/21 8:23am] |
