Given the going ons since November regarding Diamonds & Pearls material and info at some other places this rumor seems to be true.
The early to mid 90's was awesome for fans I had a blast as much as I had in the 80's! I love this era. I still listen to this era regularly and it has somne great stuff in it.

While I understand and appreciate the "sacredness" of being an older/oldschool Prince fan that was in their formative years in the 80's, this perspective is elitist and bullshit.

There is no "true Prince" just your personal preference. Clearly there are fans that came into Prince during the 90's and are just as nostalgic/appreciative for that era as you are for "your" era. Fact of the matter is, Diamonds and Pearls is one of Prince's most popular and well known albums/eras. It makes sense to delve into it.

This theory is garbage. I'm not a new or young fan and this release is gonna be awesome. You folks got your time to shine in your 80s bunker with hundreds of new tracks. Time to prove Prince wasn't on the dole by 1990.

Which means that most of you young fans will outlive us older fans. That's why they need to release the older stuff first because it does us no good if it's released after we're dead, gone, and no longer able to hear it. Y'all are younger so you have more years to wait for what you want than we have.

I believe that (for the most part) Prince did make his "best most interesting" music in the 80's. That's not really some kind of hot take. It's the simply the old school prevailing train of thought.

As someone said, "Come" is a better album than "Around the world in a Day." That's not blasphemy. It's just an opinion.

One can love/dig/appreciate other eras just as much. It's not a betrayal to your youth, musical sensibilities, or the gospel. Bottom line, loving Prince/being a fan isn't a zero sum game. It's stupid to pretend that it is.

A surround mix of Diamonds and Pearls would be really cool and would help make a somewhat lackluster album a new experience. The BIG sound of this album might be much more natural and open in that setting. With so many Blu Rays in surround coming out (such as the John Lennon Gimme Some Truth), why not give that as an option here?

How cool would Willing and Able sound with the call and response voices in surround? One can only imagine...
