Turning A Good Song Into A Great One!

Where has this version been all my life?

It's ruined me for the original.

Works so much better this way!

The song referred to is 'Thieves In The Temple' as arranged and performed on the Diamonds And Pearls Tour (incorporating lyrics from 'It' and 'Sexy MF').

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I thought this was going to be a "what would have lifted this song up" thread and thought that was a neat idea.

Very first thing I thought of that the outro to "In This Bed I Scream" should have run on for another minute or so because that shit was going into some cool, dark Nine Inch Nails territory but then it just fades out. Probably because Prince wanted each CD to be exactly one hour.

Ergo, "turning a good song into a great one"

I think that music towards the end of "in this bed I scream " should've been used as music for a different song. Its that good

Agree wholeheartedly, that happens unfortunately very often, with Prince and other artists, like You Are The Sunshine In My Life from Stevei Wonder at the very end when the congos or percussion go crazy and it just ends, what a shame.

I always wished the last 30 seconds of "Papa" (the rockier "Fair 2 partly crazy..." part) had been used for a fully fleshed out completely unique song. It was just so good.

Would it be possible that longer versions exist?

PrinceVault does nnot list these (yet).

OK I'll bite.

The most obvious example is the acoustic guitar appearance at the end of "Forever In My Life".

It elevates the song tremendously.

Good one. Although I think it works as a fade out too. We got a glimpse of it being extended in the SoTT concert movie even though that one is different and lacks the delicacy of the album.

Obvious ones include removing the raps from L2t9's, Alphabet Street and MNIP but removing raps is kind of obvious and too easy.

I think "I Wonder U" could have gone on a little bit longer but I'm not sure where you really go with it. Song always reminded me of something Peter Gabriel might do but Peter would build on a song like that ("Games Without Frontiers") and keep expanding it.

Kind of interesting to think how many songs would improve and grow by ADDING stuff versus those that could use LESS. I like "Black Sweat" but I might have toned down that keyboard part into something less piercing and I don't think the Camille voice adds much to "3121".

"IT" could maybe use some heavy guitar work in there somewhere.

I Wonder U extended has an Atlanta Bliss (I'm fairly certain) trumpet solo and some glorious warmth that builds on the already glowing vibe that comes from this song.

With Prince, anything is possible so I'm sure there is a extended version of maybe all of the Come album.Aside from the title track because it's already long enough.

Wholeheartedly agree on this, without that guitar at the end it wouldn't be the same song, however I think it should have been much longer.
