There's so much...and of course lots of great stuff already listed.

For starters off the top of my head, I'd add more from Exodus.

I'd run way over time for sure. : )

To add to the more from Exodus request, will also add:

Comeback
Space
Sacrifice of Victor
Eye Wonder
Calhoun Square

Are you counting songs that have known versions before the 90s?

I dont remember the truth super well so not sure what I thought of comeback....

I'm just counting songs officially released in the 90s.
Not counting power fantastic just as that was released as an archive track, whereas RUTJF and pink cashmere were older, but were released as if they were new....

What would you add from exodus? The only contender I thought was cherry cherry.
[Edited 11/12/20 6:54am]

I should say my criteria was basically to choose the most novel or interesting songs so while I like sleep around a lot for instance it not that novel in a wider context. I also left out songs that are a lot of fun like interactive or endorphin machine just because I'm not sure how well written they are compared to princes other rock songs. But I know ppl will disagree with some of my choices lol

Love these exchanges, as there's no accounting for (my) taste lol, and it's so much fun to hear from other folks who love to listen to Prince and NPG, etc.

Personal Exodus preferences:

Get Wild

The Good Life

Return of the Bump Squad

Hallucination Rain

The Exodus Has Begun

When I want to hear a best of 90s Prince playlist, I play the fanmade The Dawn compilation. That's near perfect.

I know you know this but I had to laugh that the first 6 songs were all originally 80s tracks.

If you listen to Prince's albums in order P Control followed by Endorphinmachine are one hell of a breath of fresh air after the previous, what, five albums? Even if you don't like P Control it starts off sounding so excited, with that bass straining to get going and the in-your-face synths.

I LOVE the opening to both of these songs. For me, both continue on in a great musical way. Love Endorphinmachine lyrics and concept, but like funk, I cringe at some of the P control lyrics.

I know a couple of hard core fans who love P Control. One of them says it's her pro-girl/woman anthem. For me, I can imagine how it might come off that way if a person hears it in the background, only catching lyrics here and there. But for some of the lyrics, I don't see it at all.

IMO the P Control lyrics also have an odd mix of logic/implications about levels of financial income. Having a hard time explaining without going into detail.

Don’t see the "anthem" reaction of my friends. Don't see how it's particularly pro-girl/woman or pro-boy/man.

This, for example:

"Pussy got bank n her pockets b4 she got dick n her drawers
If brotha didn't have good and plenty of his own
N love Pussy never did fall"

Could say lots, but will leave it with, if this is the point of view, where's the lyric that says this:

"Dude got bank n his pockets b4 he got pussy n his pants"

?

lol

Trust me, it's a lot better than the tracklist would have you believe. It has been made to flow together perfectly, often using bits and pieces from different versions of the songs. I wasn't really a fan of the era until I listened to that release.

P control is like prince, snoop,John waters and rupaul came together with an idea of what a pro women anthem should sound like

Was it ever meant to be in show girls? That seems like the right place for it. Or the carmen electra album.

Call me boring but I'm just embarrassed as a prince fan by that one.
