Why do you regard Race as corny?

The better question is why is Loose a terrible song?? Most likely it's that they don't like Prince's rock side

lol

actually on re-listening, loose isnt that bad.

its not rock really though.

its more like industrial dance.

on a similar note, i compare it with david bowie doing something like the earthling album where he was trying to combine dance and rock.

i consider it a slightly corny version of that, just big, dumb and noisy. like the song youd hear in a club scene in a movie where a character has taken a lot of pills and is about to go and do something very stupid.

but hey, its not terrible.

a lot of princes songs where hes deliberately trying to say something 'deep' are corny.

doesnt mean i dont like the sentiment and message.

but the way it is conveyed is corny.

i.e. it is not a good song.

also interesting that here he sings "She'd be a much-better-off-left fool (Face the music)
If we never heard about the evils that those before us committed" considering what he would later write.

I really liked the lyrics to "Race" when I read them before I heard the song and had big expectations but then I heard it and didn´t like the music and the vocal delivery. To this day it´s one of the few songs on that album that I never listen to. I also didn´t like it as part of the Beautiful Experience TV special.

I still like the lyrics though.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Yeah it's more a rock/dance song, great listening to it in the car

Sounds put together very fast.

Mediocre songwriting.

Meager even.

The artork surely did not live up to the music, and was very poor.

The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona as a backdrop ?

For a The Time album maybe... It didn't have anything to do with 'Come'

I prefered a 'hot' cover to live up to the title.

(Artwork and music is very important to me. it's a package!)

-

A confused album to me tbh.

OK, have to admid, there are some nice tunes and moments on there.

Barely listened to it ever since.

"Orgasm" sounds like porn. Not really a song more of a Segue

the artwork made it look like a funeral but the music had nothing to do with that, with the end of prince, at all.

great artwork though, just not at all related to the music. then again, what does a pic of a man at what looks like the gates to a cemetary have to do with a title chosen as 'come'? lol.

but it has some good songs.

Maybe it was a callback to “Lets Work”

“I’ll do you baby anywhere! Even in a cemetary, I don’t care!”

Except for Letitgo, seems like Prince was going for one word title for the songs on the album

I've never understood the appeal of this album.

I think Pheremone and Dark are very good songs, but I wouldn't call them great/classics.

I have mixed feelings about Letitgo. I love some elements of it but hate others.

The album version of Come is so bland. There are two alternate unreleased versions (one dance, one rock), each of which are a million times better.

Space and Race are throw-away tunes that should be b-sides, not album tracks.

Loose, Papa and Solo are good as novelties. (Orgasm is a outtro, not a song.)

Also, the segues between songs are super annoying. I came across a copy claiming to be "Come Original Test Pressing" that was pretty identical to the released version minus the segues. I don't know if it was legit or merely a fan editing out that garbage, but it made the album ten times better.

Calm down. Not a question of who cares, it's what Prince was thinking in making the album

I acutally agree with you, I think the song who have gone great on the CD. But I think Prince was going with one word titles (kinda how he wanted every CD on Emancipation to be the same time length) That's why Let it go is spelled Letitgo.

Loose sounds like Prince's attempt at Nine Inch Nails, but not quite nailing it (pun intended). I don't think it's dated well.

The perfect version of this album is pheromone, loose, papa, dark, solo, orgasm.

I think fans just got excited as it seemed more like a solo rather than npg album
