I get anger, hurt, even a bit of self-mockery, which is rarely there in Prince's work.

You don't those elements are all over Prince's catalog?

Anger and hurt, yes; but not self-mockery (perhaps self-ridicule would be a better term). This was a guy that, even when covering Radiohead's 'Creep', directed the contempt outwards at someone else, rather than inwards. But, here, there's a sense that he's registering something laughable about his going out "on the prowl" in the circumstances - and, for me, it's a nice acknowledgment his own vulnerability.

I'll clear it up for you.

The demo version #1 exists but only underneath the full version #2. The full version #1 wasn't erased, but was replaced with the demo version #1. There was a demo version #2, but that transported to another dimension. The full version #3 was later used as the basic track for Purple and Gold. This was a frankenstein version because the original was eaten by an un-named band members dog.

I've based this profile on really clear communications from those that are clearly in 'the know'. I hope my vagueness is enought to hold up to any scrutiny.

I get what you mean about the delivery of the line, but it's basically the same sense of humor he always uses. If there wasn't all the mythology over this track would we really think it tops the more direct vulnerable lyrics of "I may not know where I'm going, I may not know what I need", or "Maybe I'm just like my mother....", or more similarly "This is for why I wasn't born like my brother, handsome and tall".

Agree.

He wasn't the strongest around on self-reflection, let alone sefl-rdicule of self-mockery like you say.

He fled into religion and well, that's never much of any good help.

The song Reflection, and also that he l-mayed it live with Wendy, was for me the only moment of and acceptable Prince. I can't understand he didn't move on from that point of little revelatory moves.

What actually happend that caused this in the first place, meeting up with Wendy ?

There is no self-mockery here, but some kind of rare vulnerability shown. That's what I tend to believe.

Anyone want to decipher this?

Despite the "did this for a lot of tracks" talk, this makes zero sense. It sounds like this was a cassette demo, there would be no reason to back it up when going to tape unless he was creating multi-track demos on cassette or some madness. Doesn't add up.

What am I not following?

It seems he did a fuller and detailed explanation of the tapes when someone provided him the date of the piano demo yesterday (with proof aparently) and he shared a sample of an alternate take of Wally with that person. Sadly enough I'm not high up enough to be shared this info and he told the person not to share anything from that private Discord to public boards and sites and specifiacally mentioned Prince.org.

So Other versions (alternate ones ) are circulating it seems......maybe the copy tape version of this famous Multitrax version erased by Prince does exist somewhere in the hand of some collectors & Prince's lovers ?

I Have no idea. I'm not priviledged to the complete info and all I heared from some is that it's 20 second sample with different lyrics so I don't know if it's a sample of a alternate take of Wally #2, or if it's a edited out part of it or maybe even a sample of the original track or demo, I really don't know.
i just want to hear it.

There's a problem with how it would even leak anyway.

It's unlikely Wally even received a copy, but he'd be the only one. This wasn't going out for in house music at Prince venues or something he's throwing on a mixtape. Someone working at PP with access to the Vault could have stolen it, but the story wasn't circulating that long for most candidates to go looking for it. The next option is someone workng direct with the physical archiving or someone inner circle with the Estate that's consulting who is getting some goodies they're holding back, and whoever it is they're still dangling these out there for status with the eLIte TaPE TraDeRs.

Probably. Not a lot of wiggle room on this one. Apparently 20 seconds was heard though. That's some "if you give me a penny, I'll let you peek at my shiny diamond the size of a head for five seconds" bs.

Nah, I trust the people who (inde3pendantly from each other) mailed me with this info. I've known them both for years and they hooked me up me up with plenty of info that checked out over the decades, but not surprising given there sources.

On the tape that Wally had in his collection, it was labeled "Wally Piano-Vocal" but then the "piano-vocal" is scratched out with an ink pen, so I'm guessing this is the tape that was recorded over.

Hilarious! Seriously though...I'm just excited to have an official release of Wally. Y'all are stressing over the possibility of the original more emotional take. Enjoy what we do have. I'm so thankful Wally was considered important enough to give us "officially".

This song has good stuff going for it namely the sadness of the vocal
But it's too overblown and some if the lyrics flat out suck
Not quite the holy grail promised

The fact it was deleted tells you more about prince than the song itself

It's actually a very big overblown stagey NPG kind of arrangement

I didn't like it especially (like 2/5), but reading the lyrics made me like it more (like 3/5).
Prince was really a good lyricist at the time.
But that's clearly not the promised holy grail.
