lustmealways said: guys i'm not saying this is an absolutely terrible set or that it's entirely void of merit, but i am saying that there are like, idk, 5, people on this site (including me!!!! The org couldn't mobilize an Erector set much less assist the Estate in archival projects. The org doesn't even care that First Avenue is going to shut down. Or that Prince's demo tapes go up for auction. Unfortunately, reality is just never going to perfectly match our dreams and some people are better equipped to handle these projects from more than just the aspect of quality control for the material. But they left the drum stick count on "Everybody Want What They Don't Got". Why intentionally remove it from one song but not another?

You know, some people find it REALLY difficult to understand that one simple thing. That bootlegs they heard might not be the final version of the track. Because what comes out of the bootleg market is always "the truth", whilst the Estate in their opinion...is fucking up the truth. Sad.

Ugh. Another error. Popped the DVD in my computer to watch it and noticed the typo in the title, PrinceAtPasileyPark

Might explain Adonis but the Visions error is inexcusable. The song had already been released by a major lable.

What bout the feedback early in the Utrecht Live show? The feedback is an error. Not removing the feedback is an error. (bootleggars can do it to a certain extent) Not mentioning it in the booklet is an error. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... Please see the work at https://prince.org/msg/7/...?&pg=1 It shows several issues preventing the owner of SOTT SDE to assemble correct/coplete versions of Dream Factory, Camille or Crystal Ball. This means that either the set has errors or at least the statement about being able to assemble your own tracklists for these albums is kinda false. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Just got the box set on Friday and it's all I've listened to this weekend despite hearing these bootlegs for years already. I love it. The book is overwhelming actually. On some of the pages in the book, there are watermarks of "Page 1 and Page 2". That looks like a printing error no?
And a couple of the Vault discs have light scratches and even one disc has bits of plastic that didn't get shaved off when they cut the disc. I think the individual discs should have come in custom photo sleeves. The way they include the discs looks janky. But overall, I think it's a great, great box set.

IDK if we can talk about errors in this case. It's more an editorial decision that was made, followed by a PR error. Admitting that the configs couldn't be recreated would have been OK, I don't think anyone would have been mad at them for this. What was insulting was the lie in the interview. I can't imagine Michael Howe not realizing that his statement was false, so I suspect he just thought he'd get away with it. Which he probably did with most of the people who read the interview anyway: it's not like Rolling Stone, NME or Popmatters complained about it in a review or something. Bootlegs may be unfinished and never intended for release in that version. Errors such as tape warble could be just deterioration of the vault material. A bootleg copy of Wally could have been made 30 years ago and that time stamp doesn't reflect the condition of the master today when they are getting the track ready for release. Drum stick count ins might not be meant to be there, or sometimes they might. The recording on the bootleg shouldn't be the measure of this. RIP ![]()
