Sweet Baby

Right, so Love Symbol is amongst my least listened to Prince albums for a variety of reasons, but I just threw this song on after seeing on a list on the Joni Mitchell thread and I feel like I have never properly listened to it before. I'm really digging it. No excuses, just a totally slept on song by me eek

No big question here, what are your thoughts on this song in 2020?

Always have loved the song and the album itself.

"Don't you fall..." and then the cascading "fall"s is sublime. Top to bottom the song is warmth and love. It pulverizes the similar track Don't Talk 2 Strangers.

Symbol is one of my favourite albums but Sweet Baby was my least favourite song on it. It has grown on me over the years though. Grew to appreciate the lyrics and nice harmonies

its ALWAYS been in my personal Top 10 Prince songs of all time...and its on my favorite (and best) Prince LP of all time...his falsetto vocal delivery seemed as young and pure and hungry and sincere as it did on the "For You" LP...the melody and tempo, and the way the keyboards and guitarwork are married so beautifully, are a perfect match for the sugary (but not corny) sweet lyrics... i hear that song and i feel intensely connected to Prince because that song is EXACTLY what i would want to say lyrically and musically, if i were a professional musician/singer...as it is, its one of my go-to play along songs when i crank up the music and dust off the Tele & amp... easily one of the most underrated songs by Prince or anyone else..i wish i had a baby daughter to sing it to... no disrespect to my Sons😎

"Sweet Baby" is a prime example of the lost art in music, of the instrumental track perfectly mirroring the mood, spirit, and emotional intentions of the lyrics... which is why Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, The Isley Brothers, Barry White, and The Police are my favorite musicians of ALL time...because they all mastered that now lost art...

I don't mind it, but I think its one of the weakest tracks on the album.

I was really surpirsed when it was lined up as a single.

prince sans Tony M. is what you need.

"Sweet Baby" is a sweet little song. That's about it.

I've always loved this song - the vocal harmonies are gorgeous. Threw on the the Love Symbol album after seeing this thread and, man, that thing is great. Obviously, it's completely ridiculous in places but there's so much variety and it's just fun. Love it.

Great song.

..... "so he left you for another fool, yes a fool for loving him from the start, ask yourself what's more important, him or the broken pieces of your heart?". "Sweet baby, hold your tears back now".

Sweet baby is an absolute favorite of mine . It always reminds me off his earlier stuff, could’ve easily got on the first two albums .

And.... "Sexy M.F.", a great song, especially for his fans who liked his honest and raunchy lyrics(I am one of those fans 😃).

"You sexy mother fucker.....shaking that ass, shaking that ass....in a word
or 2 it's u I wanna do, no not your body, you'r mind you fool.....you sexy
mother fucker".....

Troy B was cool in that video.

I listened to that album/CD recently and I found myself remembering how much I liked the vocals on that track. The background.

Was an overall good track.

Another reason that I have been a big Prince fan. That is a song the majority of music listeners will never hear but I feel a strong song.

Always wondered what that song is about and laugh when I think it is probably totally made up

Really like the album, except a few songs, but I always really liked Sweet Baby.

But if you can, try to listen to the sound check of the Paris 2002 show, when he did Sweet Baby, but sung over Xenophobia's beat. Totally awesome.

Just like in mamy Prince albums, there are some nice songs, explicit songs, honest/true songs, romantic songs, political songs, religious songs, comical songs, mocking songs, lesson/knowledge songs and so on.....
