Gold Stickers damage on SDE's and other issues

Just received my vinyl and CD versions of SOTT SDE.

They're both really beautiful, but as with a lot of folks I'm bummed about scuffs and damage to the gold stickers.

The CD set's stickers are particularly bad, with lots of marks etc. I'm thinking of returning without opening and paying more to buy from a local record store.

This issue seems to be so widespread that I was wondering it would be worth approaching Warner to send replacement stickers on their own (if customers request them). It's a lot less trouble than having lots of people return their vinyl or cd sets.

The vinyl set had some minor marks I can live with, but the book has a small gouge on the front cover. Ugh. I've seen lots of folks are getting seam rips on their vinyl sleeves and marks on them as well. (I returned the 1999 set last year because almost every sleeve had rips along the edges.)

I wish more care could be taken with these super expensive editions.

Doesn't seem too much to ask!

If you're successful getting them to send you stickers, let us know as I'd love a new set of them. I was pretty butthurt in the moment to open such a wonderfully packed and designed box to see scuff marks literally all over and some which simply won't come off the stickers making them look raggedy. I'm not usually this anal but if I'm finna pay nearly $300 for a package then I want the stickers and everything else in tippy top shape.

I agree completely! I’ve emailed the Estate but will also contact and tweet to Warner. I was just relieved my vinyl sleeves were in nice condition!

No scuffs on mine but I don't care for stickers on packaging. In the bin they went.

i carefully removed the stickers from the shrinkwrap and stuck them on the backside of the looseleaf tracklisting.

just one little rip in the heart, but that's my fault...

The gold stickers on mine were messed up too. I checked copies at Paisley Park and Electric Fetus and all of their's were messed up too. The peach and blue ones all seem to be good, except Electric Fetus put price tag stickers on all the stickers. neutral

The gold heart sticker is awesome, with the lettering on it and all. I tore it up, but managed to save most of it and put it on the back of the listing of the tracks.

I'm quite impressed with the packaging and all. I couldn't tell which CD was DVD, though, as it didn't have DVD on it; it looked like the other damn CDs.

I'm pretty pleased, but I'm greedy. I wish we could have gotten another 50 Vault tracks. Now, I want Undertaker on CD!

Estate? Get to getting on my Undertaker CD!

We should be demanding reprinted discs with proper tape speeds and non-lossy material, not stickers... The ancilary knick-knacks around the music should always be secondary to the actual music.

I think we'd need some sort of united front for that to be taken seriously...

.

I might try at the Hoffman forums, there they mentioned something about another artist set with errors that they got reprinted because they complained to Amazon/other retailers en masse and got the listings taken down for manufacturer defects...
.
More people seem to care about the actual music content at that forum. Here people are more about stickers and "positivity" about every and all estate release--"What more do you want?" "It's fine to me, I don't notice any speed/source issues?" "Be grateful." etc.

Yeah you're right. I'm sure someone else will handle it.

Back to my stickers I go.

i see the opposite. far more realism over here than on hoffman. not that they're bad people, they're very nice, but it's just the nature of this being a site specifically for prince fans as opposed to music in general. stuff like frankenstein mixes are only going to be cared about by us, unfortunately... i see a lot of over the top positivity from other parts of the prince fanbase, which is why i think this place, even with some of the meaness, is still the most realistic and knowledgeable gathering spot for fans.

point is... i think you're alone on this, but if you can find an army i will enlist

I care very much about the music content. I'd sign any petition to get audio issues sorted out.

I am also a music collector and care very much about the packaging.

I don't see a conflict to care about both. The book with my vinyl also has a gouge mark in the front - so I'm not happy about that either. I think for $300 we deserve top notch packaging, elements and audio quality.

You don't have to justify the thread's existence! There's a lot of armchair quarterbacks on the org who will get upset that other people aren't outwardly expressing the displeasure they feel at every given opportunity. They typically also don't engage in or initiate any attempts to rectify what's upsetting them.

Like a child who skinned their knee and refuses to let you put a bandaid on it. Ok then. Be miserable.

I'll apologize, it was unnecessarily acerbic to diminish packaging concerns because of my audo concerns. I get a little pissy when I log-in and see the lossy thread with so few new replies... not your fault. Sorry.

.

They definitely are all valid concerns in the name of yes, for the amount we're paying all elements should be correct.
