Though why would anyone buy a physical release for lyrics if they can just google the lyrics for free and faster than if they had to go to their shelf and take out the booklet?

Can't you Google/stream the entire set faster than going to your shelf and taking out the media?

Like why print/press the boxset period if your logic is why not just Google it?..

No, that s your logic, not mine.
You said it was pointless to have the lyrics because everybody could Google it.
Then why not the rest of the box set ?
Again, do you really think it would have cost millions to include them, especially when the whole book praises the lyrics ?

Other dude said that.
.
I think lyrics should be in book, original art should be in book, sequences to DF/Camille/CB87 should be in the book... everything should be included.

I'd have gotten per Nielsen to write a piece
He did all the hard work for everyone else to benefit from

I'd also have gotten some writers from the 80s to do a piece
Neal karlen, Nelson George, that would have been very cool

I heard he didnt want to write anymore Prince books. Guy is weird not sure what mist have happened there but have given us so much you are right. Duane taking the lead.

I love Lenny Kravitz but he had no relation to Prince during that time period so he didn't belong in the book. And I sure as hell could have done without the Dave Chapelle and other article at the beginning of the book. The only ones I want to hear from are the people that were in his life during that era. Other than that, I loved the rest of the book from the pictures to the interesting information about each previously unreleased track. I damn near went blind though trying to read the words through that color scheme though. lol

120 pages and there is not even the original cover of the album in it ! There is a text about how great was the shooting of the cover, and it s not even in it ! . The book brags several times about how great and revolutionnary the lyrics of the eponym tracks are ( as it was a 60's song of Bob Dylan ad not a song from the late 80 eek ) but these are ot even presented in this book. . In fact there are no lyrics at all. Handwritten lyrics was a great idea, but there is like 35 songs presented in this set without lyrics printed. . No text at all About : - how was promoted and marketed the album, - the single choices, -the shooting of the music videos, - the impact on the charts worldwide, -the reviews at the time of its release - the release of the movie... . In fact it tells more about Parade and the Révolution than of SOTT itself. Frankly, this is not a labour of love at all, but a pure thievery. . Now, let s hope that the Parade SDE will talk About SOTT. [Edited 10/10/20 7:44am]

Am I missing something? The Original album cover is in the centre of the book.

Yes, it's on page 23. About 1/3 of it is cropped off though so the upper portion is gone.

How will all the Prince fans who bought an 120 buck dexluxe version of their favorite album know what the album cover looks like in that case!?

So on page 23 of my book it sure looks to me like the album cover is there (in exquisite detail), albeit the top 1/3 is cropped off, but it's mostly there.

Can you post an image of that page? I'm curious how much is cropped and how it looks. (I'm only streaming SOTTSDE so far, so I don't have the book.)

I've tried posting pics on here before and just can't get it right. Perhaps someone else with more knowledge of how things work can do it?

the book is the reason its so expensive.

i would say its not worth it.

esp as i bet now that this has done well, they will price every later set like they have done this one.

How the hell???

lol

I would have preferred a smaller format of the book like this but perhaps having one size book for both CD and vinyl cuts down the price sligtly ? I agree that the original lyrirs could have been included and a bit diffitult but interesting to see Prince's hand-written lyrics. A 1999 type of packing for SOTT SDE would have been better for me.

I dunno, I think SOTT is a special case because it was a double album to start, has arguably some of the great amounts of viable material from those years, and is the most highly regarded period amongst Prince fans in general. I doubt that they will use this approach for any other album except for maybe a PR super deluxe set down the road since that is his biggest and most "legendary" album
