I hate to point out issues with this set, but I’ve noticed in the book, on page 76 and 77 the graphic designer has left some layers on indicating page numbers. In the middle of the pages you can see in white PAGE 1 backwards, with PAGE 2 under it, similar thing on the following page. Are copies in Europe like this? I know on the 1999 SDE the sleeve for Vault tracks 1 had a similar issue with red text left on on the cover. That only seems to be on US copies, and copies outside of the US have the error corrected. Oof, same problem on pages 84, and 85.

Not seeing that on 76 and 77 in my copy. They're pages with the lyrics to ICNTTPOYM and Dorothy Parker. 84 and 85 are fine as well. I'm in the UK and got the super deluxe CD / DVD edition. Bizarrely I've just spotted that the sticker on the lower part of the wrapping saying "remastered for the first time" is all in French though - hadn't noticed that.

I guess this is why Jeff Katz did not put out his own photo book of Prince.

It must be bloody hard to read the FAQ that has been on his site for years.

Exactly. Even if I had a scanner of a size needed to do it, I'm not about to damage my own copy.

My book has been inserted/glued upside down.

kingricefan, if you would like a correctly bound copy, I'll trade you mine and send you $25 on top of that for your trouble plus pay for shipping.

Upside down books are my fetish is all.

PM me.

...

AS an aside, I just realized the 1999 CD set I got has a little book too. I either never noticed it or just though it was lyric sheets but I've been reading it today and it's pretty cool.

Not sure why they added Duane's detail on all the Vault tracks, but didn't include them on the songs that were actually on SOTT.

Not sure what the Dave Chappelle feature was there for but I enjoyed the rest of the book, especially the Duane Tudahl Vault notes. But, yeah, where are the notes for the tracks that actually made the album. razz

I hope there will be a Parade Super Deluxe release to coincide with Tudahl's Parade Era Sessions book planned for release 15 June next year. biggrin

What was wrong with the pr and 1999 booklets? I loved reading them!
This one I haven't bothered yet
Its prob just a good thing to include, cheap to produce, with good profit margins most likely.
But coffee table books are def not practical

100% agree with you.
1999 and PR deluxe booklets were great and focused.
It s really a pain in the ass to read this damn SOTT book, in term of content and format.

Who again here was also complaining about the size of the box,

not fitting on his shelve ?

You gotta be a Prince fan to love all this.

Just a quirky observation...

.

At the same time I started listening to the remastered SOTT, I began reading the book.

.

And I finished the book just as "Adore" was slipping into its coda.

.

That was unexpected. But a nice little coincidence.

The book is beautifully designed and printed.

It's a really excellent job - and I hope that for ALL future releases this is the standard.

I'd even pay money for another 1999 SDE done in this format.

Agreed (I mentioned this in another thread), All future SDE's to be in this format (and go back and re-do 1999). Imagine Purple Rain done like this!

I also would buy 1999 and PR redone in this format.

honestly, i dont want or need every album released and packaged like this.

mainly as i dont want to spend upwards of £150 each time there is a prince reissue.

the 1999 package, where it was upwards of £50 for the CD was more acceptable.

On one hand, I figure the book is responsible for about 1/3 of the $150 I paid, and if given the choice I probably would have opted for a $100 set without the book and in a box that fit on my CD shelf like the 1999 SDE.

That said... this book is niiiiiice. They did a fantastic job with it. I like everything except for Brooks' article (what a waste of space). Not saying I'm hoping for all future SDEs to include such a big expensive book (I'm NOT) but, this one is terrific. So happy to have it.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

shame the book wasn't included as an epub in the digital set. Even if with just the articles, not the pictures. It takes a lot of information away, especially Duane's notes.

Even the Super Deluxe set doesn't have that. And the download is just on 320, not in FLAC or WAV. Always found that a bit cheap, same with the 1999 Super Deluxe.

There are higher bitrate versions available, lossless at that, not? Without the book, of course.

Me too.

But I mean, you can still do that. Just get some jewel cases for the discs.

Right, but I mean a smaller book to go into my shelf space with the others.

I like the heft though lol reminds me of the Piano & Microphone 1984 set.

I like them both

I love the whole set, it's beautiful, but I could 've done without the Lenny & Dave Chapelle bits. More importantly they could have included full lyrics (printed), as well as Duane Tudahl's notes for ALL tracks. (Although I do understand Duane needs to make a buck from his own book wink )

Even more important, for a next release: yes I want a big book like this, but also some type of jewel cases or at least some protection for the discs.

This is not music, this is a trip
No, it's not a drug, it's something more hip
Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same to my brain
