Listening to that latest SOTT podcast, it was interesting to hear Dr. Fink's explanation of how he was offered the chance to stay in Prince's new band after The Revolution was disbanded. And he was around for a quite a long time after that, through the SOTT/TBA/Lovesexy/Batman eras. So obviously Prince liked him otherwise he would've been gone a lot sooner.

I think Dr. Fink was cool enough to be a unique member of the band, but not anyone who would ever detract from Prince's spotlight.

I also remember when Matt Fink said that in the beginning he was originally supposed to be dressed in a prisoner uniform, but Rick James had something similar in his band so they changed Fink's outfit to a set of doctor's scrubs!

That's interesting. Does Fink mean that he riffed a little on the following?

i think the reason Prince wanted to stay is because keyboardist in his band are integral part that holds the band.If he changed a band,keeping a keyboardist from

the previous band would nake rehearsing new band much easier,same case with Morris Hayes.

Like Matt ,Morris survived different incarnations of his bands

I am curious whether P might have considered briefly retaining the Revolution name (for live performances, not as billed on the album), had Brownmark stayed.

I am a musician. I know how this shit works. Nothing any of these band members says is far-fetched nor does any of it reek of struggling for relevance. If you think Prince was responsible for every idea and every sound on his "band" albums then you're stupid. If he didn't need them and their input he wouldn't have billed it as a band and the credits on those records wouldn't state that the songs were written and performed by Prince and the band. Let me guess, in your mind Prince was just being nice and letting them have some credit they didn't deserve. It's 2020 MF. Get yo shit together.

This isn't a brand new story in case that matters to the Revolution haters that think they're expanding their stories.

It is not news that all of his band members may have had an idea in a rehearsal that Prince then takes to an entirely different level. The woo hoo part of Purple Rain is pure Prince genius. Could it have started out from some progression from Dr. Fink? Sure. Is Dr. Fink responsible for this signature moment? No and I don't think Dr. Fink is claiming ownership of it. He is giving us some insight into the process.

Prince worked with some really incredible musicians that were stornger musicians than the Revolution later in his career like Larry Graham, Maceo Parker, Sonny T, Sheila E, Cassandra O'Neal, John Blackwell, Ida, etc. I'm sure they all had some great ideas the HE transformed into finished songs. There is a difference between telling us about how Prince's genius enabled him to take an idea during a rehearsal to another level versus those who take credit for the finished product by embellishing.

Plus we've heard it on some of the tapes where he appears to be composing on the fly based on a jam and he's saying "that's not ours" or encourages them to stay on something, but change key.
