...and are we for sure for sure this is legit? It sounds like him, and it's funky as all get out. But we do know it's real?

The voice sounds like Youthful Prince...and the guitar sounds like the end of Ronnie Talk To Russia. It's him. Plus the title is a known Vault track.

I thought so, but wanted to see what others thought. My fucking goodness. It's nuts. Like someone already said, I'm absoluetely mesmerized. I'm now convinced. Prince didn't die. He wasn't capable of dying. He wasn't human to. He was from another planet...Hell...another universe altogether. He was simply called home. That's it. Because, no normal human being could do shit like this at the BEGINNING of his career. Maybe in the middle, or in his prime musically. But the beginning? I can't. Shout out to 23 again. Good looking out Homie...

1977? Huh. Has a Daisy Chain vibe, to me. hmmm

Who questioned whether it's from 1977? And if someone did, why wouldn't be a legitimate question?

Because it is from 1977. Therefor, and as such, questioning whether it is, is by definition...D-U-M-B!!!

You didn't answer the first question.

Yeah, but why do I need to? YOU were the one assuming I was referring you directly. I made no mention of you. Sure, it was implied by you the post before. But lately, there has been tons of "doubt" from uneducated fans about whether songs (ie. "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" from 1979) were, in fact, from that year (or where they simply told to us they were by the estate). We've also had those same uneducated fans complain about podcasts where statements made from people who were THERE...people who've had very intimate relationships with Prince...were either exaggerated or made up...without any proof as such. I can see this song becoming another breeding ground for those same...and I'll say it again...UNEDUCATED arguments regarding the accuracy of the timing of the track, and I think it's DUMB. So no, you won't get an answer for the first question. Because with all due, I wasn't talking to you...

Very funky. I'm very greatful to have it now.

I've just had a little play around with the mix. I brought the two stereo channels a little closer together and removed some casette hiss. I'm loving it. smile

Interesting how Prince was gifted by Owen Hussey with a drum machine in 1977 and whips up this hilarious funky little gem...and then doesn’t touch a drum machine again until 1981 with Private Joy.

That's not quite the case.

There's a drum machine used (in fact it sounds like it may be this same one) on his demo of "I Got Over It" - the song he gave to Valerie Carter.

It's not circulating (and I don't have it, but have heard it) so you'll have to take my word for it. But that seems to post-date this track somewhere between late 77 to early 79.

The distinction with Private Joy is it's the first use of the Linn.
