New topic Printable^ I can't really describe it, it's that bassy (keyboard?) effect that keeps repeating after each da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. Always felt it sounded dated.

he means the drums. With that weird reverb. (which is not in the "early runthrough") [Edited 9/5/20 12:26pm] Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

None of it sounds dated to me, because the sound was unique to that time period. I don't recall hearing any other music played like that in the 60's or 70's. I think it has its own sound.

Ifi t's that then, well without it the song sounds no that unique like the SDE version.

All.
I 'Frankensteined' both versions for my own amusement. One edit has the processed drums from the original album release underneath the extended demo version: too busy for the first part, doesn't work. The other version however... I took the original song and added the last part from the edit I made: perfection. I now have an extended version which rocks!
For those that are wondering: I used a spectral editor to remix (Izotope RX).

. Can you tell us a bit more about how you went about it? Where did you take the album version drums from (the start?) Did you simply loop it or was the song not loopable? What is spectral editing? (as in, what do you have to look for? How is it different from the "regular" waveform editors?) . You say the drums from the album version don't work under the early run-through version. I don't doubt that, as the drums have a definite tone to them, so with the chords that are over them it might be jarring, not even too busy. . So, can you tell us a bit more about your experience doing this? Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

Can you tell us a bit more about how you went about it? Sure! I extracted the drumloop from the album version’s first few beats, and put it in Logic as loop. (You can do this in most DAWs). Then I put both versions of FIML through Izotope RX and basically erased the drums. Spectral editors are like wave editors with brains; they can remove sounds using their particular footprint, similar to our brain recognizing a guitar, drums, piano, etc. Then I matched the tempos of both drum free versions in Logic, put the drumloop underneath it, used an equalizer and a few other tricks to match the production of the album version with the demo (they sound quite different!). Finally I mixed in specific parts of both version by ear, and settled on a mix of the album version (first 3 minutes) and the demo version (last 3 minutes) with the album drumloop underneath. There’s more to it, but that would turn this post in a audio nerd post. Next project: mixing in ‘It’, either from the movie version or the album version "In Funk We Thrust" - Bootsy Collins

I absolutely love the last 2-3 minutes of this version. I don't know if I like this version as a whole more than the original more sparse album version, but I am really glad it is released on this set

I will barely take account of the mixing information on the liner notes. (Previously, the mixing information on the liner notes of “1999 Deluxe” was contradictory to the info shown on platforms like YouTube or QoBuz). [Edited 9/25/20 3:05am] "Don't need no Reefer.
