Some of these pix in this thread are just "Sentimental warm photos" or "cool pictures"

"Iconic" is an image everyone knows, instantly recognizes and automatically associates with that person

Like Carlos and Smith in the Olympics raising a gloved fist, the Kent State photo of the screaming woman next to a shot student, Ali standing over Sonny Liston, the US Hockey team goalie of 1980 draped in an American flag, Barrack Obama's "HOPE" poster, planting the US flag at Iwo Jima, hippies shoving daisies into soldier's rifles, John Lennon in an army outfit, The Abbey Road album cover, Pink Floyd's prism design, Queen at Live Aid, Springsteen's blue jeans and bandana from Born in the USA...

Shit like that.

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass or start any shit here and Old Friends for Sale beat me to it.

To be sure, there are SEVERAL "iconic" photos being posted here (Parade cover, Super Bowl, R&RHoF solo, Purple Rain images) but pix of Prince as a child or simply meeting someone famous don't qualify since they're "niche" and not as universally known. "Iconic" means "defining image" not "here's a cool photo very people have seen or even know about" that still captures that person. His symbol logo alone is, for instance, "iconic" because everyone knows it. It's an icon.

Hope I cleared that up.
