I've always thought (artwork aside) that The White Album was comparable to SOTT. Both had less of the radio friendly singles per volume of songs. Both really genre hopped. Both had a lonely even isolated mood for many tracks. Both ended with a lush slow song with thick production. Both also had some tracks with very barebones ideas presented in almost musical skeletel form.

Both also kind of threw off the teenage pop audience?

Interesting. I can buy that but maybe Emancipation? i like the Parade as Revolver (not just the b&w motif) as most fans and critics automatically put SoTT as the best Prince album (not general pop culture as that would be PR) but I think over time, Parade especially once we get to a SDE, will be seen as good or not better.

White Album is their darkest... and with the dark legacy of having been appropriated by Charles Manson and his cult.
