Where was Andre Cymone? He should have been included.

The Revolution for some reason won't include Andre(whom i've seen live numerous times) in their band anymore.

I'm really glad that so many young artists I've never heard of could come together in order to pose on stage to backing tracks, hold guitars they can't play, and celebrate Sheila E. It's a beautiful thing.

Was nice to see The Time and The Revolution though. What the hell happened to Jimmy Jam?! Also, I hate to say it but Mavis' voice is gone.

Who used backing tracks?

I liked it overall, but yes, it was the Sheila show for sure. I was thinking of Apples fb rant through the whole thing. But she DID sound good and knows how to throw it down!

The Revolution should've been backing Beck for RB and they should've shown them performing Mountains. Did anyone see the clip I think Susannah Melvoin tweeted? It looked like it was awesome. Also I know Sheila covered it, but her America was terrible imo. Why not Love Bizarre & America WITH the Revolution instead? We all know The Rev tear those up! St Paul & Susannah should've done NC2U. Would've also liked to see more former associates...and the NPG! Sonny, Tommy, Morris H, and Michael B at least! I am starting to think at least some of Apples rant may be true. lol

I loved the Time...would've liked to see them doing a few other songs beyond the JL and the Bird since most of the original line up were up there.

Foo Fighters rocked it.

Finally, is Jimmy Jam's health ok, does anyone know? He has lost a LOT of weight.

Right. I can't believe they cut Mountains. Susannah posted a clip, and Wendy & Lisa recently posted the link to the full performance. It was awesome, and nice to see/hear one of Prince's artistic songs that wasn't played on the radio every 5 minutes back in the 80's.

*

It was absoultely the "Sheila and her backing band" show. I guess when you are the musical director you can pick and choose who, when, and how things are done. Shame though, because The Revolution should have backed most of the songs, as they actually originally played them all live with Prince. Instead, they get one song at the end - and it was great with Mavis and Wendy killing the guitar solo, but they should have been featured much more.

*

> Foo Fighters nailed Darling Nikki. Love, love love.

> Beck's RB was great, as is all of what he does musically.

> Common's rap was good during SOTT

> For Manic Monday - the full Bangles band should have performed it the way they always did

> Chris Martin would have been great doing a piano solo of Condition of the Heart

> HER has a great voice, but doing TBO just did not fit, as it is meant to be sung with the angst and desparation of a man who wants to be with a woman but can't.

> St Vincent doing Controversy...NO, just no. She, or someone, picked the wrong song for her to do. Considering she was just born when the song was released, it makes sense that she would not "get" the funk and message of the song.

> Why wasn't Eric Leeds on stage during NC2U??? Better yet, why wasn't The Family doing the song? Another bad decision.

*

Sheila had herself and her backing band on stage for almost every performance. After watching the full show Apple's rant is making a bit more sense confused eek. Oh, and I HATE the song Lemon Cake. Bad. Just very bad!!

Wasn't Usher's performance a recording from the Grammy's tribute?? Or, did he just do the same thing again?

I didn't think P needed yet another tribute an arbitrary 4 years after his death but I'm glad to hear the positive reception it's getting.

Despite my feelings though, I intended to watch the show and by the time I remembered its air date, it was today... sad

Fuck me...the nutcases always come out of the depths. There are other posts on here calling Sheila E and the Revolution nothing without Prince, that they are Milking his Legacy for themselves and threatening acts of violence on artists that paid tribute. Like when Justin Timberlake did a tribute and the holier than thou nutjobs took offence because Prince wouldn't have liked having his image used...as if that was an insult to his memory when we all know Prince got it wrong and needed therapy for his his extreme obsession over control of his art and image that took so much positive energy out of honing his legacy...which is all that matters once you die.

You lot should just figure out how to destroy all public references and output related to Prince on YouTube, Spotify and beyond and keep him for yourselves...no one deserves him except you...like Misery...shut him up and keep him for yourselves...until no one gives a shit anymore...jeez.

im not completely sure what Andre's thinking is, but based on prior communications from him it doesnt seem like he really WANTS to be involved in the excess pageantry, and the industry's commercialization and exploitation of Prince's life and death.

They re-aired the tribute that was shown on the Grammy's which was live the night before they taped this tribute.

It's the tribute where they ahd FTK Twigs on a stripper pole dancing, and didn't ask her to sing, so there was some controversy.

Of course it was the same! The performance was so brilliant and well rehearsed that they included it in both. Which makes total sense when I saw it live.

Different strokes for different folks. I thought it was a bit over-the-top and a "trying to be too much like Prince in his youth" performance. A trying too hard moment.
