This is my choice to. This track shows his skills but specially the drumming is truly insane on this and I never heared anyone compliment him on his drumming on this track.

all things being equal, from and artistic, independent and overall "fuck off, I'm gonna do me" standpoint, ATWIAD was brilliant and absolutely the right call. The games he played with the industry, his fans and even sometimes his women allowed him to stay fresh and never quite disappear.

Someone of relevance once called him "the world's most famous underground artist" and I've always thought that fit and was an apt description. I always dug the way he went about things, turning left when everyone else went right and usually picking the right times to re-assert himself commercially.

He could frustrate me but he was always interesting.

Pop LIfe is great.

I remember listening to it in my car one day when I accidentally had the speakers flooded to one side and hearing the delayed vocals for the first real time in total isolation. They're layered maybe a second apart but the effect wasn't entirely apparent to me until that happened. Hendrix would do the same shit (Crosstown Traffic) on several songs.

Yep I was there at the conga room & I was probably only a handful of people that recognized it, I was yelling for the trio to play the Undertaker in between songs but to no avail. Great night i'll never forget.

I was there too! The power trio of Prince, Sonny, and Michael B is one of my all-time favorite shows. Opening with "I'm Yours"??? Are you kidding me?!! I knew we were in for a treat when he played that first!

My most underrated song is, believe it or not, Sister. Such provocative lyrics, it comes out of nowhere, and rolls into Partyup effortlessly.

Gets lost in the strange way the album is originally formatted.

This was the beginning (or continuation one could argue) of Prince openly fucking with us. Obviously he did it before and always seemed one step ahead of "the game". The difference being that this was on the heels of the massive, world changing bomb of Purple Rain so him playing with folks was amplified.

"Raspberry Beret" is fine and a good song but imagine SAIMH htting radio stations out of nowhere in Spring of 85 similar to what he did with "When Doves Cry". I think that song's inclusion alone would have bumped reviews of the album up a star/number and would have generated a ton of buzz. But knowing Prince, he purposely relegated it to a b-side. He seemed like to feed us gradually, at his own pace, and keep us wanting. Seeking.

Come to think of it, all the b-sides from ATWIAD should have been on the album (Girl, SAIMH, Hello) but Prince was gonna Prince.

God bless him but it's a better record with those songs on it. Maybe not Hello which kind of feels like a b-side but the other 2 I think were more developed as the psychedlic tracks he was striving for and would have made for a stronger album.

Sorry for the rant.

I can only thin that maybe these songs were too much PR like.

These songs you metioned could also have been on PR (my opnion)

He also didn't want to continue the whole fame thing, so a song "generating a ton of buzz" wasnt his intention at tha time.
