I like it. I hadn't heard a lot of Maxi singles like this. Took things in a different way, felt ecletic yet cohesive at the same time. Had a sense of adventure and fun. I like this and what he did with get off.

I still love it. Bit experimental with the instrumental parts. It still sounds funky fresh for the 90's to me

A highlight is the way Q In Doubt segues into Ethereal Mix

"Get Some Solo" is a great, great track.

I don't care abouit the rest.

I actually think that those Cream remixes were recorded after "My Name Is Prince" (but still during the same time period, shortly after.)

On the Vault pictures that appeared in 2018, I've seen a 2" tape dating "Get Some Solo" to 29 September 1991.

So it's very likely that the other remixes were either done on the same date or on the same week.

But either way, they happened after "My Name Is Prince" was recorded.

I never played that fully, just as i never played fully the Get Off maxi. Not my cup of tea; it was the definitive end of the era of wonderful/interesting B-sides. Still was a die-hard fan at that time but this was another crack in the armor.

I always thougt it VERY odd this was such a massive hit in the USA.

Around the time I read the Americans didn't understand what it was about!

Clearly that must have been the case as otherwise it would have never been played on mainstream radio, if at all!!!

Forrest Gump comes to mind!

Yes. Cream and Gett Off are E.P.'s disguised as Maxi-Singles. I'd say the same about The Scandalous Sex Suite, New Power Generation and The Beautiful Experience.

Don't be silly, neither songs are overrated. Overplayed perhaps but that's not the fault of the songs. Both have genius production and performances, elevating them more than any amount of clever songwriting would. The Cream Maxi-CD is a good listen, lesser than his other maxi-cd song experiments but still worth getting.

Agree, and I'd also throw Space in there as an EP disguised as a maxi-single.

As for Cream, I like the maxi with the EXCEPTION of the Cream NPG Mix, which is just too thumpy and over-scratched. I would've rather had an audio version of his performance of the song on the Arsenio show. His guitar solo at the end of that one is excellent and made the track even more raw and bluesy. So, I added that myself and love to revisit it when the urge to Cream beckons.

Many of the other tracks on that maxi single turned one of my friends into a Prince admirer, especially Do Your Dance (KC's Remix) and the Q In Doubt mix; fun vocals and keyboards on the former; great guitar playing on the latter.

It's one of the better examples of taking elements of an existing song and creating a totally new track. New Power Generation was the first real example (with Batdance being a lighter exploration) of him doing this. And I love "Loveleft Loveright."

For Gett Off EP and Cream EP, these are aural orgies of Prince just doing whatever. It goes beyond remixes or alternate versions. They're different songs, yet we can hear the original song in every one of them. They're prime Prince, for me, when it comes to derivative songs; I don't mean that in a bad way.

One example that really never got out officially was the similarities with "My Tree," "Number One", "Oopey Doop" (orwhateveritscalled), etc. Prince was on speed when he programmed those and they're horrible.

The Ethereal Mix makes it all worthwhile!

I always liked the album version too.

It was great hearing Prince get a LOT of airplay back then, especially after Graffiti Bridge tanked. The D&P era was cool for a Prince fan . . . Arsenio Hall show, Special Olympics, media appearances and magazine covers. And a video collection to accompany the album!

I have never liked the song Cream, so I haven't heard the maxi single.

However, I loved the maxi singles that came out in the 80s!
