I have yet to hear a Prince cover that didn't surpass the original in every way imaginable.

Another one with pink glasses and purple earpods.

The live versions of Crazy and Come Together around 2007 were majestic.

Loved his renditions of "Creep", "A Case of You" and "The Best of You"

"Whole Lotta Love" played live lacked the necessary power; a bit anemic, timing was off.

Agree with a previous poster; something missing from live Sly stuff.

Live - usually brilliant.

Recorded - almost always ones to skip. Plenty great Prince tracks up on the shelf he could have used instead.

I generally hate covers. With P it was hit and miss. I did really like Crimson & Clover and Let's Go. The Prince and Sly Stone covers always disappointed and really became bathroom breaks in later shows.

The IndigO2 aftershow in 2007 that opened with Thank You For Talkin' To Me Africa was a stunning opening.

one bad exception, "Everyday Is A Winding Road"

(except for that "Flashlight" portion)

Everyday Is A Winding Road would have been just fine without the Larry Graham part.

Purple House was a nice tribute to Hendrix.

One Of Us and I Can't Make U Love Me are two of his best covers, IMO.

Betcha By Golly Wow and La La La Means I Love U . . . meh. Not really crazy about those.

Crimson & Clover (with Wild Thing): love it.

A Case Of U -- this one was obviously very important to Prince, as he played it a lot. I like the few different versions I've heard.

Of all of these, my favorite cover is One Of Us.

My fav is Purple House
Case of U
The Sweeter She Is.
When Will We B Paid.

Live - usually not the complete song, often omitting key sections that might've resulted in a brilliant rendition.

.

Studio - mixed bag, to be sure

The Violet Reality is covering this very topic, where they talk about 5 covers that have never surfaced or rarely surfaced.

It's on Youtube!
