Would Prince have taught a "master class" in music eventually?

Seems like some big names are teaching these master classes. Big, BIG names.

Would PRINCE have taught a master class do you think???

But didn't he tell Arsenino he wanted to teach music?

Hell no.

It would have had to have been his own website, and even then, do you really picture a 10 part video lesson with Prince explaining the bridge of a song?

He went from being the guy who barked at you for not being perfect to the artist who liked to help someone sound better, but he seemed selective about who he shared wisdom with, didn't he? More likely, he'd spend time in schools or visit a rock school kind of program and jam with the kids, being veyr, very gracious with his advice, or maaaaybe do an artist in residency kind of masterclass for people he selected, in private at Paisley Park, and then film it, but that would go into the vault and never be seen from again. 3rd Eye Girl and Andy Allo might have also got the masterclass out of his system for what it's worth.

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.....Jesse Johnson....they're still around and could do the funk side. Not really the same, but they're cut from some of the same cloth. Wendy and Lisa has come into their own, and could do a Masterclass for their soundtrack work that could include some Prince lessons (although I think they already shared the biggest one, playing just behind the beat to stay in time with the beat).

Right he said he would love to teach music in some capacity. I feel like him wanting The Beautiful Ones book to also get people to start learning music is a good indicator.

Was it important that people were musicians to Prince do you think?

Please explain what part of an album and tour is a literal masterclass?

By this painful logic, every album and tour was a masterclass.

If the money was right, and the presentation was decided by him.

And even then he might have lost interest halfway through it.

Would never have happened but I often wondered what were this thoughts and process around music theory (chord progressions, scales, tone etc) and his playing and recording techniques etc.

We tend to think of artist like Prince as just playing "by ear" or as an "intuitive genius" but as Winston Marsalis taught me, thats a backhanded and insulting assumption (and usually reserved for musicians of color). On the contrary, I'd bet there's a long history of hard work, study and practice there.

Distinctly not what a masterclass is. Simply recording an album and performing a concert does not equate to teaching. Teaching is the key to an actual class. Next?

I cant speak on what he would prefer but i feel like he would feel that each person has something they could bring to the table. Music is not a singular template, so someone with just a tambourine can contribute...but also Im sure he would like to work with likeminded people. Just my two cents

Eh, I think TBO showed his love of music.

I should clarify: I don't think Prince was going to be a professor or teacher at some community college or even Harvard. I can see him in studio A, or at some music school talking to students throughout a day course, showing them technique or talking chords, whatever. Just a schedule of talking to students, maybe coincided with tour dates or something.

God, can you even imagine...

No I cant cause he would never do that. He was too reserved among other things. Hell, he wouldnt even get help after he died once in a plane. The only masterclass he would give would be in private to a young female who fit the western standards of beauty.

No one will ever know for sure, but the world would have been a better place if he did.

So I'm going with "Yes, in some form or fashion".

'Simply'?

Does the way an album is put together, arranged, performed, etc not show some people how it is to be done?

Does the talk during a show not educate people?

Your perception of the world then is different from mine.

Please elaborate on what the master class would look like.

No not at all!

Prince was good in his own way but he wasn't trained.

Don't forget Prince employed the talents of MANY different people. What we see and hear isn't just Prince!

Wendy and Lisa would be better at giving a masterclass.

cool
