I truly believe there is a big selling album waiting in the vaults of Iron Mountain, possibly Dream Factory (maybe Camille) could do amazing numbers as they are infamous withdrawn albums that should generate a lot of interest.

Nope. Even a pristine Dream Factory original formation etc will not do big numbers.

Depends on what you consider big numbers.

If it has promo, good artwork, a single and music video i could see it debuting in the top 10 with good numbers.

I mean, Piano and a Microphone debuted at #11 with over 30,000 sales.

Imagine how a studio album with brand new songs could perform.

It will be the same ol' same 'ol. A new album, it will sell 20,000-50, 000 for a short top ten entry and then zzz. No Prince album regardless is going to be a large seller. Same with many other legacy artists. No matter what ault etc material is sold.

Don't releases like this tot up a lot of their sales over much longer period of time?

I would say yes, but Im just meaning that regardless of what the estate, wb etc release, it wont sell huge. Us die hards will be happy but in general, not going to be big sellers. Even after years time. I dont really see 1999 Remaster hitting 500,000 even a decade from now for example.

If each release was tied with a TV special event, or a Netflix documentary, then it would sell better.
.
The prices are way too expensive too. For instance, you have to pay 65 euros for the deluxe edition of 1999, just for the edit versions. That s ridiculous. They should have done a deluxe edition with the second CD being unreleased tracks.
.
There is also a problem of timing. For instance, the solo version of NC2U was released more than one year before Originals, preventing it to be a commercial argument.
.
Queen, MJ, the Beatles, still sell millions.

Dude you're delusional if you think that a second cd of unreleased tracks would have sold any more copies. The only people buying cds are already fans or an ever shrinking group of luddites afraid of streaming.

Prince is not, nor has he ever been, nor will he ever be, able to compete with Queen, MJ or the Beatles when it comes to sales with the single exception of the one album he has that still sells a lot of copies. Besides which, show me the non-greatest hits Queen album still selling "millions" of copies, or even outselling Purple Rain (it might exist, be damned if i,m checking)

I don't think you know how to count man.
.
This is just a best selling list of one country, not an overall list.
With this list alone the Beatles sold with only 2 albums 1.060.000 equivalent sales, and 592.000 pure sales. That s millions in the US alone for their overall catalogue.
.
Queen is the best selling act worldwide in 2019, not only they sell millions of albums in the US and worldwide, but also dozen of millions of tracks.
Maybe that's not enough for you, but that's millions for sure.
.
With only two albums, MJ has 900.000 equivalent sales in the US, which is like 1/4 of its worldwide sales.

Worldwide in 2019, equivalent sales :

Bohemian Rhapsody : 2.748.000 (+ 1.329.000 in 2018)
Greatest Hits : 1.297.000
Platinum Collection : 1.253.000

Rodney, listen.Prince will never see those numbers as those other legacy artist. Thats the point overall. Even if WB or the estate etc released Prince music as the way you feel they should. Dont worry about other bands selling or me not being able to count. Listen to the point so you can breathe easier. The point that Prince is not going to be a big seller even if they release content in the manner you see fit. Do you understand that? Do you?

Relax yourself dude, I never said or implied that Prince could sell millions. Never. Find me the quote.
I was just reacting at some posts here saying that nobody sells anymore. Then you said those acts weren't selling millions nowadays, which is completely false.
.
I just said, and you should learn how to read too, that if things were done "my way" it would sold BETTER. That's all.
.
Funny since I was accused here many years to say that Prince could never sell a shit, that now I am accused of the contrary.
Complete nonsense.

A little focus on Purple Rain in the US in 2019 if you please: . #86 best selling album #20 best selling catalog album #11 best selling soundtrack. . Its soundscan sales are now nearing the 4 million mark (3.930.000 exactly). It was last certified in 1996 at 13*Platinum, but has now passed the 16 million mark for sure in sales only. . And there is like 350/400 k streaming equivalent sales on Spotify/YouTube only, and it's catalogue is only available since two years. So the 17 millions mark certifiable by the RIAA could occur next year. . Sadly, WB seems not willing to recertify it properly. That's a shame, because at 16 millions copies (without streaming!), it s one of the ten best selling album of all time in the US. It would make great publicity for sure.

Strange because surely Purple Rain is over 16x Platinum now, it should be re certified, as BAD was just recertified as Diamond in the U.S. a few years ago...

The interesting thing is, for the Purple Rain Deluxe release in 2017 WB presented The Revoultion with 13x Platinum plaques.

Sure if the outtakes were on cd2 it might sell a few thousand copies more, if you're lucky, but the fact is the vast majority of the music listening and buying public do not care and will never care.

Thé MJ estate is good in only one thing : recertify the studio albums.
Strangely, greatest hits are not recertified anymore.
The Beatles too, like Prince, are clearly undercertied.
Note that BAd was recertified 10*Platinum only because of streaming, not pure sales.

It doesn't matter, there aren't enough die-hard fans out there to make a difference. I agree with all your ideas for making these sets better, and if they followed all of them this set still wouldn't be doing big numbers. I like that you follow and post the sales of these sets, it's interesting stuff, but Prince outtakes are such a niche product! The 1999 reissue is good because they recognised this and they (mostly) went for a quality product.

These are physical sales, i guess?

Pretty amazing and shows how popular Prince and Purple Rain are...

Streaming is of course another thing...

The numbers are not bad, but with more exposure like a good documentary or a movie like the one universal is planning, the numbers will rise...

Yes pure sales : physical+digital
That's a shame the Netflix documentary and the 1983 live at first avenue are constantly pushed back. What are they waiting for ? The physical market is dying
