LOL...my 13 year old son looks ALOT like a teenage version of John Legend...skin color, haircut, eyes... he hates it when people tell him that

John(whom I met on set) was real cool, humble, & approachable & is an excellent keyboardist just like Prince(r.i.p.)was. Which makes me feel he can actually pull it off. Prince(r.i.p.) could change his voice to ANY vocal range. John if he picked the right composition like "Rasberry Beret" or even Take me With U" could nail it. Just stay @ the keyboard & don't try to dance.

Exactly. Prince wasn't a solo artist that need other non-associate musicians to play his tributes where his own bandmembers should had been contact first. I understand its all about attracting stars for these tributes but most people would still enjoy the songs no need to constantly attract star power (since when that is revelent in 2020 when this younger generation are making their own stars over some internent sensation by some previously unknown person).

He already had his own bands who not only alive but healthy enough to play these tributes. The industry should had contact them first before getting the likes of Beck, Foo Fighters, etc. I mean don't get me wrong they are talent but still show some respect toward his bandmembers who helped Prince to get where he was at.

I remember Wendy and Lisa said on their social media page that they were overlook when it come to Prince documentary scoring gigs yet some of the songs they helped to do and they are right. Give them some Prince scoring gigs that the least people can do since they lost some opportunities to do Prince tribute gigs. Plus they were there with the writing not just touring.

Prince is the only 1 who got Prince to where is was.

This a grammy tribute to PRINCE, not his ASSociates.

No man is an island.

Prince even said out of his own mouth that he got help especially during the mid 80s with his studio work. He also talked about jam sessions how it was done by various bandmembers and some of their work went on his records.

Whether you like it or not facts are facts, his associates help his success and more should be up there instead of musicians who have nothing to do with his success. I understand some people have personal beef with his associates but please don't let it cloud over facts and stories.

[Edited 1/12/20 13:01pm]

I've always thought Prince's biggest commercial success was because of his collaborations with his Revolution band members. Always wished they'd reunite for one more album. This is not a diss to Prince's talent. My favorite Prince stuff is mostly without The Revolution.

I agree with PennyPurple. This is a PRINCE tribute, not a REVOLUTION tribute. Here's hoping they don't make it all about them. (But I'm not naieve enough to think they won't try)

Perhaps I missed something, but were the Revolution asked to play at this event?

Alicia Keys, John Legend, Usher, Foo Fighters, Beck set to perform with musical director Sheila E.

Alicia Keys, John Legend and Usher will perform at a special Prince tribute concert set to take place after the 2020 Grammy Awards and air on television later this year, Rolling Stone has confirmed.

Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince
will be held January 28th – two days after the Grammys – at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be broadcast in April. Past Prince percussionist Sheila E. will serve as the night’s musical director alongside longtime Prince associates Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The lineup also includes Beck, Common, Foo Fighters, H.E.R., Earth, Wind & Fire, St. Vincent, Mavis Staples, Chris Martin, Gary Clark, Jr. and Juanes.

There's more in the link.

my only concern with some of these tributes is that it becomes more about the person paying tribute instead of the individual if it's receiving the tribute. A case in point is when Jennifer Hudson singing purple rain on BET I love Jennifer Hudson however it was a lackluster tribute and it sounded like karaoke. I also be called Kelly Clarkson singing purple rain in while I love Kelly Clarkson still you sounded like a karaoke tribute. so sometimes it seems like they just get who is available instead of taking a little more time and doing something that's in death I pray that be have been the right thing by Auburn musical hero this time. Male chorus me Sheila e did her Prince tribute he was definitive it was awesome it was energetic and you felt at any given moment Prince was going to walk out there on the stage not to me that's the tree of you

Jesse was on the last Grammy tribute. So what would stop him this time? NOTHING! He will be there.
