Sorry yeah, I meant Crystal Ball 86. Take a look at the tracklist for Camille. You're talking a couple B sides, a sound track song, and an unreleased song. The rest is on Crystal Ball/SOTT. It'd be a supreme waste to have to buy the same songs for the 18th time to facilitate a hard copy posthumous Camille album. I'd much rather see Crystal Ball come out because although it has most of SOTT on it as well, it has slightly tweaked or altogether alt versions of other songs. I see it as a kind of analog to Bowie's Gouster/YA in that it basically is the same album but kinda not. Camille on the other hand bears absolutely no difference from the songs that went on to be released. I think the only real alternative would be to release SOTT deluxe with a disc of DF outtakes, a disc of Crystal Ball outtakes, and a disc of other random outtakes (Emotional Pump, Come Home, 101, etc) with detailed explanations of how Sign o the Times evolved - with a mention (and perhaps a pic of the mock up) of Camille.

I've had an idea. Given that the Camille sequence only has one unreleased track, and as you say it's now a bit of a mish mash of previous LP tracks / B-sides / OST tracks, wouldn't it make a perfect release for record store day?

It'll be a limited release so it won't flood the market, it won't step on SOTT deluxe's toes, hardcore fans will finally get a physical copy of it and it may even get some sales from casuals who want to support record store day.

Opinions may differ on what to include, or where to include some songs,yet Parade Deluxe w/o An honest man (full piano version) is a no-go, and that is not open for discussion , also, what about the album-tracks with Clare Fischer stuff that were released without it (like new position), and which version of others here with us (w and w/o orchestration) or old friends, i want them all

It deserves its own deluxe set, even if it's just three disks or something. The extendeds and b-sides are so great from that album. And any outtakes or alt versions, like the bass-y title track, or the earlier "Raspberry Beret" are good for the third disk. With the onset of The Family and then UTCM, there may not be quite as much viable material for ATWIAD to expand past 3 disks. Maaaaybe 4 at most. But still..it'd be nice.

As a note, "Raspberry Beret" dates earlier than ATWIAD, but it belongs on ATWIAD because that's when it saw the light of day. So an earlier version on that would be notable. But then, on the other tip, you have those Graffiti Bridge songs on 1999. I suppose I'm more worried about duplicates with only slight variations than the timeline (which is still a top priority).

PS I think the two Crystal Ball configs are unnecessary.

They tried to find Raspberry Beret to put the original on the 1999 SDE but couldn't find any trace of it. It would absolutely belong on there, imo. I think ATWIAD probably has the least amount of potential material for an SDE. It was the shortest period between albums and judging by the 83/84 sessions book, he wasn't doing that much recording since he was prepping the tour, finishing A6's and the Family's records, and on the promo circuit for the movie (tho I suppose he didn't do a ton of promo because, well, Prince). What about The Family's stuff? To me, songs like Go, A&B, and Splash would fit more on a Parade set since they were recorded after ATWIAD came out (and A&B is from 1986).

The Purple Rain Deluxe set was really poorly done since it included so much stuff that was recorded after Purple Rain came out (or when it was clearly not gonna be on Purple Rain like Our Destiny and Roadhouse Garden). Otherwise, it would make sense to put things like Dance Electric and Wonderful Ass on a ATWIAD set too.

I hope they include the mix of "Others Here With Us" without the orchestration. The song is already discordant enough with the screaming synths, but Clare's contributions overwhelm the track.

For me Romance 1600 also feels like some kind of foreshadow of the Parade sound. It's not my favorite of the 3 Sheila E albums.

Completely agree. These albums could easily be stand alone releases especially with extras. Imagine alternate takes, unreleased trax & possibly a dvd Of some kind. None of us know what is in the vault. 😍

a collection celebrating the Camille voice but also the process of how that happened.

As long as we get the full versions (both sax and guitar) of Crucial I won't care about anything else.

Anyhoo, the song's genesis was earlier, which is why it fits on 1999 deluxe. Granted, it's a tough call. Old songs come out later, and are associated with later projects. "Bold Generation" and "We Can Funk" are prime examples. They are inherent to 1982, but we didn't hear them until eight years after, so where do they belong? A GB deluxe, or the 1999 Deluxe?

For me, I think "Feel U Up" belongs on 1999 Deluxe because the songwriting, the style, the hooks, etc., are very 1982. It was great we had an updated version in 1989, but it still felt... odd when listening to all things Batman related. It was out of place, in a way. Even on Camille it's sorta weird because much of Camille's material was recorded around the same time, then we still have this odd older track that floats from project to project. Other than the voice change, it doesn't feel like a Camille song.

With all those variables, it belongs on 1999 Deluxe, which keeps its nature pure.

Well, there's nothing stopping them from doing what they did with Possessed. Each era's version is included on the era-specific set.

I think stuff like Girl, Feel U Up, and The Question of U are most complex. They were essentially untouched when they were released (which is different than BG, WCF, Can't Stop, etc).

To me, Feel U Up 86 absolutely belongs with the 86 material as that's where it was intended to be released. But the fact is, it wasn't. Same with Girl - recorded in 1982, released in 85. TQOU - recorded in 85, released in 90.

Yeah, the "Possessed" thing was an unusual choice. I sorta thought maybe they included the version of either on 1999 and PR because it was recorded in 1982 and was a b-side, but was also used on the PR tour. It works, though.

The separation sorta makes sense because he often updated songs, and we have multiple versions. There is some logic to peppering the more significant songs across different editions.

The original recording absolutely fits in on 1999 Deluxe. As for the 1986 version, I don't think it would hurt anything if they included it on both SOTT and Batman Deluxe releases.

My problem is, I want them all!

I would genuinely love seperate CD's on the shelf for Junk Music, Dream Factory, Camille, Crystal Ball etc etc.

If they did do that (I don't think they will), it would make it a lot easier to then place the remaining era tracks on the relevent, Parade, SOTT, Lovesexy deluxe.
