Why bother with a barebones release when you can easily get https://prince.org/msg/7/461716 (if you're in Europe)?

UKers holding out for a cheaper option to the recent German release should know this is not the same release. The different region releases of this movie continue to be a messy minefield for fans. neutral

Because Brits are no longer in Europe? biggrin

I'm joking of course. I would think any fans wanting a more affordable release would already have the region free Australian edition from a few years ago. At least it was affordable when I bought it.

The mediabook version of the Turbine Bluray / DVD is in stock on Amazon UK too. Far better!

It would be nice to see "sign" on the big screen in the UK, do you think it could now be shown? What about something like the Rolling Stones screenings https://www.planetrock.co...ur-the-uk/" target="_blank"> https://www.planetrock.co...ur-the-uk/

Maybe because it's five times the price of the barebones and all u get is some interviews as extra.

Does the barebones one have the same remastered audio and video of the Turbine release though? I got the mediabook version of the Turbine Bluray for Christmas and it's superb.

All releases including the Canadian/Japanese issues have great and remastered picture/audio, there is only so much that can be done with that source. Seems all they offer is updated audio codecs from release to release of the main feature. 101 films have so great blu-rays available too.

I've read the new German release is slightly better than the Australian Blu-ray which is an upgrade over the Canadian DVD being only SD of course. The Brazilian DVD is reportedly terrible. People should avoid that disc. There are also pirated Russian Blu-ray discs currently selling on eBay. I have not read anything about those.

I'm assuming the new 101 Films U.K. Blu-ray won't be the exact same audio and video that Turbine created for the German release, but it should still be good.

Hi everyone.

So I picked up this new SOTT blu ray today and I haven’t had the chance to watch it all the way through yet. I watched it for about 15 minutes and compared it to the digitally remastered ‘Network’ DVD.

I noticed no particular issues with the sound. It was louder than the DVD but the music sounded great through my TV.

The resolution was significantly higher than the DVD. The image was crisp and sharp around the edges. However, there is a definite issue with the picture quality as dark patches seem distinctly grainy. It’s not as noticeable during brightly lit numbers such as ‘Play In The Sunshine’ or ‘It’s Gonna Be a Beautiful Night’. In contrast, during darker numbers where Prince is singing in a spot light (‘Sign’ or ‘Forever In My Life’) the picture looks dreadful.

When I get a chance to watch it all the way through I’ll report back, however I would only recommend you buy this if you have yet to update your VHS copy and you do not wish to fork out £50+ for the media book.

Hi Londonmale,

Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the German one to compare it to. However, I've only heard good things about the picture quality on that one.

Unfortunately my PC doesn't contain a blu-ray drive, otherwise I'd attempt to post some screen shots.

If I find some method of capturing a couple of shots to illustrate the issue I'll be back. wink

It will be the case with all versions, it's a grainy film unless artificially dnr'd which would be awful. I've seen good reviews of the UK version available for £12 direct from 101 films free UK shipping.

Don't worry about the 5.1 audio's, they are all upscaled and messed with, the original 2.0 PCM is there and is all you need!! I personally wouldn't pay another £40 for an interview disc.

Just my opinion but I still think the Canadian wide screen release is the best release of the Sign of the times concert.

The Canadian release is a DVD so all Blu-ray editions will look better.
