HDD reports just over 16,000 (14,570 pure album sales). If the majority of those are for the Super Deluxe it isn't a flop but I can't imagine these numbers are thrilling anyone. My only concern is any impact on future projects. What happened to all the Prince fans??

Almost 15k of $55/$100 sets?

That's amazing. It's over $1 MILLION in sales from only one week only US.

That's IF all 15k were the Super Deluxe. There were two other configurations. The price of the SD is a steal for what you get! A FANTASTIC RELEASE.

If we want more of these we need to buy the damn thing.

Soundscan sales will be higher than 15000

This is in fact the peak position of the album in Germany, and it's first charting week ever.
.
Like most of the countries in the world, 1999 in fact never charted at all !

Lol I don't know why, but the two previous topics about Originals sales were successively locked for me, so I gave up posting sales.

Is there still a rule that every disc seperately counts? So a double album woukd count for 2?

That applies to certification (gold, platinum, etc) but doesn't apply to the weekly sales total.

Then wouldn't each cd count as a sell for gold standard? 1 box set sell equals 5 cd sells?

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Yes. If it sold 15k this week then its certifiable units are 75k (5x15). That's still a loooooong way from gold (500k), but it doesn't matter anyway because all sales of the Super Deluxe Edition will be counted towards the original album, which is already quadruple platinum.

And which won't be recertified anymore, anyway

Has any 5 disc boxset gone gold or higher (other than the og 1988 Clapton one)? Aren't box sets generally niche material and not expected to blast throught the roof. Except for The Beatles box sets.

Nice article except when reviewing "Do Yourself a Favor" as "one of the purest pop melodies Prince ever wrote."

1999 has re-entered the Billboard 200 at 45. Out of the 44 albums that are placed higher, 14 are christmas albums. So not bad at all.

Exactly...why are ppl comparing sales with a Taylor Swift or Beyonce release?

One of the reasons it was hard to find on the release date is because of Black Friday. As I was searching for it, every single retailer said that due to Black Friday most vendors didn’t even bother coming out to stores to stock it.

I agree. I am sure the estate is very happy. Limited marketing/word of the mouth basically. And also the fans bought the physical version too I read that RS article it was around 95 percent of sales came from that. The estate made some mad dough off this deluxe so far.
