Nobody did care, initially. 1999 (the album) was flailing until the 1999 and Little Red Corvette videos hit MTV.

Most people were yearning for SOTT remastered etc, or Parade. Only precious few would mention 1999 all these decades.

I think it's a pretty great leap between the idea that most prince diehards prefer SOTT/Parade to 1999 and "only ten of us cared."

They might be purposefully holding videos on DVD/Blu-Ray back in hopes of selling those separately. Why give them as a bonus disc when you could potentially sell them separately?
