Censorship is evil.

Censorship is the first reaction of `leftist` people that cannot see any context with stuff.

Censorship is therefor a weak action.

So in this age of censorship we have to oppose any steps in such direction.

.

I forgot to mention that `information` wants to be free.

Doubting that? See what the internet did.

„Censorship is the first reaction of `leftist` people that cannot see any context with stuff.“

Really? I wonder where you are from.

.

Netherlands.

We see plenty of leftist shit trying to censor whatever.

Even history.

You're villifying leftists with broad strokes because *gasp* not everyone is okay with Prince singing about raping a woman.

.

If they see it that way then that way it is:

They ignore context as I wrote.

It is a fantasy, it is a lust thing, etc.

How hard can it be to properly feel the song?

He villifies leftists because they're the modern day moral majority except they don't even have religion as an excuse for their behavior. It's all about feelings and who's the biggest victim. Their enemies are morally wrong and need to be silenced. Problematic ideas need to be scrubbed from history. Of course, they get to decide what ideas are problematic and, if you dare to disagree with them, you're an enemy.

Don't like people thinking that about you? Pick up a book, learn the history of what a "leftist" is (spoiler: they were some of the biggest free speech advocates and defended everybody's rights) and learn to live in the world as is instead of expecting the entire world to cater to you.

rolleyes some serious Boomer politics happening in this thread.

You're complaining about liberals, not leftists, you even recognise this by talking about the history of the left.

What is this, P&R?

I don't care what your politics are, if you're for censorship, then I'm against you.

If you're on the "right" and motivated to censor based on your religious beliefs. I'm against you.
If you're on the "left" and motivated to censor because of social justice. I'm against you.

If you don't like it, be a grown-up and don't listen to it.

Only fascists and hypocrites try to censor that which offends them.

I am most dertainly not a boomer.I was born before the 80's, after the 60's.

So please restrict yourself to teh core issues instead of the messenger.

The core issue is that someone waded into the thread with some sloppily worded stuff about "leftists" and censorship, regardless of your age it's pure boomer thinking to conflate those on the left with those in the centre, so it was worth correcting.

Despite that it seems we have all come to the same conclusion on the issue so I apologise for attacking you so aggressively over it.

Extraloveable is a good song isn't it? biggrin

Of course the wording is more important than the message.

Of course the situation that certain people believe that censorship is OK is not worrying nor alarming.

Of course the songs are good and need no censoring at all.

It is anti-censorship.

If any people struggle with the leftist connotations then it is mostly an issue they have, not so much an issue in my description.

Let's be brutally honest. It isn't the right wing behind #metoo and cancel culture. That's the woke left.

And leftists/liberals/whatever had no problem pointing the finger when it was the silent majority in the 70s, the religious right in the 80s and the neoconservatives in the mid 90s-early 2000s.

Act like authoritarian moralists, be prepared to get called out as one. Regardless of what side of the partisan line you fall on.

This is a solid post.

Estate couldn't get Whoopi Goldberg to record a "reflection of the times" disclaimer track for the bonus discs?

You could tell him right here on the org, without going to youtube, but it's probably not necessary.

Only songs I can think of that will probably never be officially released are Schoolyard and certain live versions of Return Of The Bump Squad ("I got something for your headache")

But who knows, Horny Toad made 1999 Deluxe and that's way more over the line than Extralovable. Nobody even mentioned it while they were complaining about the scream at the end of DSMR and parts of Let's Pretend We're Married.

The rape line woulda drew the wrong attention.

What are you talking about? I am anti-censorshop, I vote socialist and have done so my entire life. I take issue with your description of the left as pro-censorship because I see it as a confusing liberalism with leftism.

For everyone else, I recognise it's slightly off topic and I ignored the first post about the issue but when a minor pile-on started I figured I may as well put up a bit of a defense.

Lust U Always is a good track isn't it?

I wouldn't accept any such thing, and I'd be very vocal about it. I'm glad they chose to omit the songs rather than editing them. Sooner or later the moral crusade will end and the songs will be releasable.

I rather have them edited NOW and maybe ubedited later than not having them at all. Prince himself was known to edit songs. I do not see the big deal... same goes for them re-creating mixes based on an inferrior source. The fact is he set no priamaters and he said that not only would they be released someday but that some of the songs are not finished (some may take that as the leaked versoions are not the completed versions) suggesting that someone would end up finishing them for rlease.

I can't imagine anyone would have raised a fuss if they released a previously unreleased song that had questionable content. And it's Prince. He evolved. Nobody in 2019 is listenng to Prince's provocative lyrics and taking them that seriously. He's got the kind of status where he could get away with saying all kinds of offensive things here and there.
