I've always loved it and listen to it quite regularly.

I'm sure HM Buff made some comments on it in his recent interviews but I can't recall what..

If this got 'a proper release' the critics would have loved it.

Two that I remember.

Comeback had some sort of short vocalization intro (or outro?) where multiple harmonies became one.

The Truth and Don't Play Me (I think it was those two) were done in a single take back-to-back.

[Edited 11/8/19 3:09am]

Well remembered.

Yes, I recall him talking about Comeback now. I'll have to re-watch the Violet Reality interview

This is a nice one to listen to. My favorites are One Of Your Tears, Don't Play Me, and Comeback, which is such a beautiful and sad song about his Son.

Great record! Even Animal Kingdom. haha

I'd love to hear if he recorded any "full-band" versions of these songs, aside from Welcome 2 The Dawn, which I know some people around here have already.

I've always been curious about the non acoustic version Welcome 2 The Dawn, I really want to hear it someday smile

cant they at least describe it...

The Truth and N.E.W.S. are the album I thank Prince of having released.

The Truth and One Nite Alone are both beautiful and poignant for the same reasons to me. The songs are wonderfully written and performed, very mature compositions especially when compared to the demos he was doing on either piano or guitar during the For You sessions. Interesting that both albums are trailing rather momentous occasions in his life - The Truth with the death of his son and One Nite Alone with his divorce. In that respect, and given he touches on both topics on their respective albums, they are probably some of his most intimate albums. Reflective, thoughtful, conscious.

Funnily enough, was listening to the 'Xenophobia Chapter Three' boot last night, and he plays a solo acoustic guitar version of the truth with no swearing...and no sound effects! Some great banter with the audience also - so far, my favourite version and nice to rediscover things again after all this time.

With Prince, this seems to happen a lot.

Great album! Man In A Uniform is my jam! Was this album his answer to MTV Unplugged?

Well I think his live acoustic set was more likely his answer to ‘unplugged’, as it was hits/well known songs.

Yes! Underrated Gem. In my Top 20.

The Andy Allo/Prince acoustic album is another nice acoustic project.

Good album, was there evr any real official cover art (booklet backcover and all) comissioned for the album or was it always just going to be packaged with Crystal Ball?

Same for Kamasutra, I know there's a tape of it, that I don't have, that has covers are these full covers?

I believe Steve Parke stated he had done what he thought was a great cover for The Truth, but it was scrapped when Prince decided to bundle it with CB.

At the time I thought this should have been an album release. Better still, performed live in one take, no overdubs etc and a deluxe version with DVD. Critics would have loved it and a lot of 'musos' not into P would have taken note. Don't think it would've been a massive chart success though.

It's a gem of an album The 1-2 punch of the opening tracks rival anything he's even done. Kind of meanders a little here and there but, man, I listened to "Come Back" the night my Dad died and broke into tears. I don't think I've been able to listen to it since.

Weird how he'd bury records like this, The UNdertaker and Exodus in a sea of obscurity in a way that masked his true range and and the depths of his talent.

It's worked my way up over time into one of my favorites though

the 'cover' artwork used on tidal and spotify is pretty cool. coupled with the tracklisting on the
actual disc itself, you can pretty much surmise what the entire package would have looked like
if it had been released as a stand alone album and it would have been pretty good.
