Peter Andre recalls bad experience meeting Prince backstage

Aussie singer Peter Andre was on Good Morning Britain this morning and recalled a time when he was summoned backstage to meet Prince, and as he was waiting in the corridor for Prince to emerge, one of Prince's security guards comes out and tells everyone to turn their backs to the wall as Prince is coming out and doesn't want to be seen. Peter said one guy who worked at the venue refused to do it and he found out later that this man got fired.

Also.... its pure BS.

Peter Andre 'summoned'? He's a walking, talking tabloid.

How does one “summon” Peter Andre anyway? Moonwalking to a backmasked version of Billy Jean while ceremonially burning Molly Meldrum’s underwear?

Are stories like this really even true?

I mean, if their backs were to the wall, that means the center isle was still open for him to walk between the 2 rows.

They would still see him.

😂😂 U sure?

And geez, why would someone fire someone for that? 😐

Ha, that's my bad. I meant to say facing the wall, not back to the wall.

Anyhoo, don't shoot the messenger, just reporting what I saw Peter Andre say on breakfast telly. To be fair to him, I don't see why he would just make it up out of thin air. He wasn't particularly slagging Prince off and even said "it might've just been Prince's security, Prince might not have known anything about it."

But the female presenter Susannah Reid replied with "people like that make my skin crawl," so she seemed to interpret it in a bad way.

I don't really see why it's that unbelievable anyway. Prince could be an absolute asshole at times and was renowned at times for treating those around him very poorly.

I think I worked it out. A lot of P's "weird" behaviour when backstage or whatever comes down to one specific thing: he was funny about being around tall blokes. In particular, being seen next to tall blokes, ESPECIALLY if women are around. He had to be the hottest thing in the room, and I think he thought women would still think "but he's so short" if next to tall guys.

It all clicked for me watching - I think - the Musicology "ON Tour With Prince and the NPG" documentary... I think there's a moment with Erykah Badu... Those perceptive enough to c, will C...

Of course Prince didn't realise that to most women who were there to see him, anyone else was barely even visible, let alone hotter

If this is true (big if), I suspect it was more about Prince simply wanting to get out of there without people trying to talk to him, shake his hand, or otherwise get in his face.

As a performer, I can tell you that sometimes after a show, you're just exhausted and really don't want to be bothered. I've often disappointed castmates and others who wanted me to party after a performance when I've just blown them off and gone home.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Good question.

I've heard a celebrity or two tell similar tales and to some extent and, given Prince's moody mysterious nature and infamous ego, I can see it. Apparently Slash or Axl Rose told a similar story during the Lovesexy period duriong some awards show but that could just have easily have been Prince not wanting to be bothered by a bunch of drunk, smelly, obnoxious junkies who later said "he looked like a fag that night" so not sure I blame him.

But it's also not too hard to imagine Prince throwing some diva shade from time to time either. For as bold as he could often be, I think he held a measure of insecurity and shyness throughout his life and it may have manifested itself in off putting ways sometimes.
