What if Come had actually been issued as a single?

Prince was preparing a Come maxi-single with the Beautiful Experience version (along with an extended mix), 18 and Over (then known as "Come (18 And Over Remix)", a Straight Pass Remix of the album version with the 18 and Over beat and the album version. Somehow this never got released cause Prince made 18 And Over a Symbol track, and the planned promo clip for the 18 and Over remix ended up showing as part of the "overture" for Prince's Ultimate Live Experience tour.

Since 18 and Over was technically a follow-up to Universal Love, would've the fact that it had a promo clip possibly made it slightly sucessful, but not as huge as Letitgo?

P.S. Also, what was the Techno Mix from the Versace and Other Experiences bootleg? Was it an extended TBE version?

Someone gave me a digital copy of 'Versace & Other Experiences' years ago, and it doesn't have any Come (Techno Mix) on it. Wish it did... I love that version. cry

Yep.

A tracklist for this bootleg on the Free Music bootleg label is included in this old thread:

'Come (Techno Mix)' isn't included on this release (Free Music #007)

I like the Vid version better, but they are so different I consider them different songs. I woulda loved a maxi single, but happy they did space instead.

Yep. Not in that timeline. And never through WEA. Prince would've made sure of that. wink

The Platinum boot has the techno version of Come fading right into the Welcome 2 The Dawn voice, then “if you would like to continue...press Come” then it’s the album version till faded. Then perfect segue into Strays of the World. I suspect this is fan made but almost sounds too good to be. Would have worked perfectly for a maxi single.

The problem is that the album couldn't be more successful, since Prince made zero promotion for it.
No music video, no tour, no TV performances, etc.
Instead he performed songs from Gold Experience...
.
The best possible lead single from the album was LOSE. A pre prodigy song that would have been a huge hit in Europe...with a music video.
.
Space, in its album form/ or Universal love remix could have been successful too.
.
