He is very clever with intros. I like it when it's something that isn't repeated again in the song.

I’ve always said that to friends who weren’t fans. The way he grabs you from the first note. There aren’t many artists who focussed on that so much. Whether it was his voice or a melody it was spot on (for me anyways) - even the opening chords or Purple Rain.
I suppose it’s like everything else in life that we give some a few seconds to capture our heart, we like or dislike people within the first 20-30 seconds etc - it’s all fascinating stuff and we also link our good memories to these hence the old getting on the dance floor after you hear the first few bites 😁

On another note, one of his WORST intros imo is Call My Name... That lazy drum sounds puts you to sleep from the very first time you hear it on the intro.

1999 is the most epic intro EVERRRRRRRR.

I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

For me it's the opposite--slow drum tempo = "sit down girl and let me pour you a big ole' cup of compliment." It sets a mellow and sensuous tone. And it is solid--as in sold! Another one--"Damn U" with its swelling bass and searing cymbals.

His energetic ones are riveting also, of course.

thumbs up! cool

Let's Work is probably the first intro that comes to mind that I make the stank face to. Especially the synth hold after singing "Let's Work". I do the stank face and lift my arms up and drop them down.

My favorite funky intro in his catalgue.

"You know, this is funky but I wish he'd play like he used to, old scragglyhead son of a...*smack* OOH!"

"Who's the foo singing will it's would"

Oh, I love the intro to "The Future".

"What are you?" then the drums start... I love it.

Then the segue into Electric Chair... "Think about the future!" is also awesome.

When Doves Cry - The most epic, angular, iconic guitar solo'd opening...EVER. Abruptly stopped, leading into the talk-boxed "yow yow yow" section, followed by the classic synth line. All before the song really kicks into gear. Im still amazed by this.

Also, the endings. Prince was not cheap with a song. The best has got to be the VERY funky one on IWBYL.

This is the best thing you ever said. Agreed. That opening blast of whatever it is:keyboard, keytar or whatever is like a jumpstart.
