People, please read Andrewm7's post about the female voice in Orgasm. It IS NOT PRINCE moaning and groaning!! It is VANITY pretending to, or actually, masturbating within the song. The song was called Vibrator, and was planned for Vanity 6's second album, which did not happen because Vanity left the Prince camp in July 1983.

*

Prince took an excerpt of Vanity's vocal and included it in his song Orgasm - originally called Poem - for the Come Album.

*

Here is some information on the original song (Vibrator) and a link to princevault.com for all of the information: http://princevault.com/in...e=Vibrator

*

"The track is an ode to the battery-operated sex toy. The narrator (Vanity) sings about her vibrator, before the song transforms when the batteries run out in her toy; she goes to a store where she meets a shocked store clerk, played by Jill Jones, who offers to "take it downstairs" to install the new batteries. The narrator leaves, instead taking it to a different store, and meeting a different clerk (played by Prince in his Jamie Starr voice), who gives her the batteries and rushes her out of the store. She then takes her toy home, and the song ends with her moans and her eventual climax."

Prince said when it came out that it was a way to give her some money...

What???? When and where did Prince state this?? Vanity is not credited for writing the song, so she would not receive any money. You may be thinking of Nasty Girl, which Prince credited to Vanity 6 - not just Vanity, but which he actually wrote. Vanity getting any royalties would depend on how Prince officially submitted the song for publishing.

Do you have a resource? Not doubting you, but just very curious, because I had never heard or read that information.

Right, but that is quite a statement to make without an actual written or recorded source. Prince also never discussed how he credited his songs. He was very private about that, and there were some conflicts with his associates through the years about not receiving credit for songs. Prince would have sent money directly to Denise anonymously, and it seems that he may have at some point, because Denise stated she had prayed for a way to pay her medical bills, and by some miracle they were paid off.

and? I am expected to keep on file everything I ever read just in case I might mention it decades later because someone wants a source? Either believe it or don't. Who cares?

Anything is possible, but the timing would have been a bit off. Orgasm/Poem was recorded in early 1993 - a year before Denise's overdose. The Come album was released in 1994, which meant that all publishing/credits/materials for the record would have been completed months before.

*

I think it's more likely that Prince anonymously paid her medical bills at some point after she recovered by sending the money to someone.

It matters, because this is where the term "fake news" originated. Reliable sources and documented comments/information matter, otherwise we'd have anyone saying anything regardless of whether or not it really happened. That comment above - from a Prince fan who was not personally involved - speculating and stating "they say that..." is not a reliable piece of information. Who said it? When? Where?.

Aaron, this was originally recorded for the unreleased Vanity 6 track "vibrator". Well worth tracking down for Prince's (quite probably politically incorrect)portrayal of a gay sex shop owner. Not the greatest outtake ever, but a fun track none the less smile

I... Don't think that he's playing a gay man. I think that's him doing an older woman's voice.

r u high....of course its gay

Lemme give you a piece of good advice: gay men don't use vibrators. At least, NOT the kind you hear in the song which is the standard cylinder style. If you think that goes up someone's ass or against their penis, you are the one on something.

Yeah we knew all that. Talking about Prince doing the older woman shop owner voice who sells Vanity the fresh batteries.

Aaaahh, okay that makes more sense, except Prince's Jamie Starr voice was not meant to be portray an old woman.

I would take the suggestion of it being Jamie Starr as being incorrect. As you can hear, it doesn't really sound like Jamie Starr (and Jamie Starr wasn't gay). It literally sounds like Prince doing an old black lady voice.

I'll have to listen to it again. If it sounds the same as his voice in the song Chocolate then it is the Jamie Starr voice.

no i think it means her boyfiend dosn't get the job done (just like Vanity in the song) so when he leaves she is left wanting more...

Just listened again biggrin Yes, Prince/old woman does say she always has a " back ache" too after her boyfriend leaves.

I love how loud he makes the Vibrator sound, and that it takes 10 batteries biggrin

"Vibrator" is hilarious biggrin those lyrics are funny! lol

Such a shame that we never got a second Vanity 6 album.I think it would have been much more outrageous and "nastier" than the A6 album.
