Is Prince music the only music you buy?

Since Prince died, and I suppose long before that, I stopped buying CDs of anything except Prince releases; the last 2 cds I purchased were "Originals" and before that "Piano 1983."

I've listened to other stuff on streaming but no purchases.

Y'all?

I bought the latest Lenny Kravitz CD, and another artist I follow (JD McPherson), but I don’t buy too much music anymore other than Prince.

I paid for tidal premium, and keep paying because of the wide variety of content on it. I guess I wouldn't have bothered starting if it wasn't for Prince, but downloading and streaming a bunch of artists keeps me there, so that is sort of a yes and no. smile

He's one of four. There's Prince, Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz and Bon Jovi. I always buy their albums. I listen to a lot more than those but I generally just download the others. Then, there's a few artists I listen to that I always get their stuff for free so I don't need to buy them but if I didn't get it for free, then I would buy those too.

Not at all. Prince is my favorite, but there's incredible new music out there today.

Recent obsessions include SZA's CTRL, Charli XCX's Charli, Roisin Murphy's recent singles, Robyn's Honey, Tyler the Creator's IGOR, etc.

No idea why Prince's death would impact the music I buy in general. I don't listen to music solely for Prince.

Interesting choices.

Are you familiar with Abra? She´s my favorite "new" artist but she´s been around for quite a few years now. She can be heard on Charlie XCX´s song "Drugs".

I still buy and guess will always buy any Prince releases, but other than that it´s getting more and more difficult to buy physical releases because many artists that I like simply don´t release CD anymore, and streams and downloads are not really my thing. I love to support my favorite artists and just got to have a CD that I can then turn into mp3s to listen on other devices.

The latest album I bought was Brenk Sinatra´s new album....a talented producer from Vienna.

Er, no.

I love Prince and buy every release, but he's probably 1 or 2% of my music listening...

There area THOUSANDS of amazing musicians and artists out there... I don't believe in renting music, so I buy my albums. I buy vinyl - CD if there's no vinyl option - sometimes new, sometimes 2nd hand.

This year I have bought over 200 LPs.... so no, Prince is far from the only music I purchase. How could anyone listen to only Prince?

New releases I would only buy Prince, Beck, Paul Weller and Bruce Springsteen these days. Everyone else I'm happy to stream.

I buy the odd vinyl reissues such as the recent Lenny Kravitz albums and the Bowie reissues, plus a few other albums released in the 1990's that have had vinyl releases.

Sza is ok it was a process but I dug most of Ctrl but Robyn n Tyler jawns u said r really good. To answer question I haven't bought a CD since Janelle monae's latest n prolly won't anytime soon. Apart from being hella broke with many other more important expenses. I've taken to streaming. Shit it's (usually) free n no "guilt" 😛

Yes! Abra reminds me a bit of like a mix of SZA and FKA Twigs. Frankly, I am obsessed with most alternative R&B/pop. Also love Sky Ferreira and her new one can't come out soon enough.

I sort of feel like all these artists owe a ton of props to Prince who was doing alt R&B/pop since the beginning.

Oh I can't even begin to explain how much I love CTRL (peep the username, lol). Even her previous EPs to me are just so fire. She reminds me of so many other artists, but is doing it entirely in her own lane. Hmm, quite reminiscent of P. I wish P had done more work with younger artists. Janelle Monae, Kendrick Lamar, and Lizzo are talented as hell (even Rita Ora is), but the list goes on. I hope there is something with him and FKA Twigs in the vaults since she was up at Paisley for a minute.

I love lots of music and lots of artists but yes, currently, I only buy Prince music and not always on the day it comes out because I have an eleven year old son who outgrows everything I buy him very quickly (and sneakers & cleats ain't cheap!) and as soon as I get groceries it seems like I'm turning around to get more because he's growing so fast & always hungry!....
And, I'm not complaining one bit, being a Mom is my greatest joy and it makes me happy to provide for my son but it's not cheap.

But they asked if Prince the only music you buy, not just listen to. I would hope no one solely listens to Prince post-mortem. haha

For me, there are a few artists I choose to support.

Prince

Janet

MJ

Timberlake

Madonna

maybe Motley Crue (I bought The Dirt soundtrack, and already had the book years ago)

fDeluxe

But I'm with some others here. The last real CDs I bought were.. well most of those I listed. Purple Rain Deluxe, Originals, The Time - Ice Cream Castles. I canceled my orders for Original vinyl, and the other three purple LPs (Versace, Emancipation, Chaos). It was breaking my bank. Also, Madame X, I bought Man of the Woods on CD & orange tree grain vinyl at Target. I'm surprised the MJ estate hasn't released more material than it has. I know there's music sitting around and it has to fill more than Xscape did. I also bought Janet's Control, Control: The Remixes, The Velvet Rope and janet. on colored vinyl. But dat's it!

Edit: I will buy the fuck out of records in the $1 bin at my local record store.

The latest Lenny Kravitz cd is excellent. It took a while for it to grow on me, but I love it. One of his best IMO. His concert in August was also one of the best I've seen in a few years.

Short answer is no... I buy the stuff of a lot of artists, generally R&B/funk/soul acts spanning the ‘70s to ‘10s (like Janelle Monae and Ledisi). Largely vinyl these days, but also sometimes CD, and almost never downloads.

I desperately need to save up for a new turntable though, so might be taking a break from buying much music for a few months, lol.
