Who knows whether Prince was gay. He was certainly willing to act gay, which to me is a lot more interesting.

I absolutely agree.

-

Read a book awhile ago that tries to explain that (in short) there doesn't excist something like 100% this or 100% that.

That certainly doesn't mean tat everything should be quotated in sexual experiences per percentage.

He indeed was willing to act 'gay' (as hetero sexuals see it). And then again, what is that?

And certainly from that 'hetero' point of view, what's the value of that point of view ?

....

-

I do find it odd people are obessessed with classifications. As though it is of valued meaning or used to degrade.

'Gay' is a modern concept.

Our ancestors had no such concept and the word cannot even be found in ancient languages.

People are people no matter - don't get brainwashed by modern cultural values where the onus is on control.

Language is control.

Estate, why in the world would you be releasing the video in this package on DVD? It is a 2 decade old medium. You pushed the envelope with this set, why in the world would you not put this on bluray? Sure the source content is not HD, but that does not matter, DVD is ancient tech, good for coasters or a wind chime that makes no sound.

I'm relieved to know than the song itself is much much more interresting than ur useless comment !

yeah... and I respect that you seem to like this song more than I do. I like the finished song much more.

No one is coming for your abortion: they just want common-sense abortion regulations: background checks, waiting periods, lifetime limits, take a class, and a small tax.

I love the both same for different reason , like a beautiful Impressionist painting that u look at once early in the morning & once another time just before the sun is falling before the night !

Because it would make no sense fiscally to manufacture land distribute what's most likeley less-than-DVD-quality material on a BluRay that is specifically meant to handle way more data/video in much higher quality. That, and most BluRay players, if not all, play DVDs.

Leadline:

Most likely the source tape for this show and most others pre-1990 would have been from either VHS, S-VHS, or at best some type of 3/4 inch U-Matic tape.

None of which would transfer to Blu ray well at all, basically the picture would be stretched to the point where it would look horrible.
Other than HD (1080), only film sourced materials (16 or 35 mm) would be good candidates for a Blu Ray release.

The estate made the correct decision in going with the DVD format for this video release.

Hope that more are to come in the future.

This is utter nonsense. There is plenty of 4:3 TV content on Blu-ray. Aspect ration has got NOTHING to do with the carrier.

.

Nope, not true. SD content still is a good candidate, considering things like framerate and proper colors and audio can be better on Blu-ray.

Negative. There's nothing special about the Blu-Ray format except that it can hold more data on the disc. It's not like UHD where they can do HDR.

If this was a situation where the source was fantastic, there could be a slight benefit to using Blu-Ray since they could do no compression along with lossless audio.

This isn't a good source though so they'll be able to fit the concert plus lossless audio onto a dvd with minimal issue. Same as the PRD DVD.

I pre-ordered the digitial version of 1999 Super Deluxe on iTunes. When I woke up today the International Lover outtake had automatically downloaded to my phone and laptop iTunes libraries. That was a nice surprise.

Bart:

I mentioned nothing about 4:3 being an issue.

However VHS and Umatic tape only have so many lines of resolution (250).

So, when you try to stretch a rather small amount of video infomation onto a format with 1080 lines (blu ray)

You will get a crappy picture.

Definitely not "non-sense".

.

SD video presented on Blu-ray has the potential to look better than that same content on DVD due to the availability of superior video codecs and higher bitrates. AVC and VP9 codecs available for Blu-ray both offer superior picture quality at a given bitrate than the older MPEG2 codec used on DVD (or comparable quality at lower bitrates). Content that might have been over-compressed on DVD with noticeable compression artifacts need not exhibit those artifacts on Blu-ray, resulting in a more faithful and detailed reproduction of the original source master.

I prefer this waaaaay more than the released version. In fact, I always felt “Baby You’re a Trip” should’ve been a replacement (and still do) but this demo version made me rethink my indifference about the released version. I’m such a fan of his keyboard playing btw!

It's a shame the new take of "International Lover" can't be discussed in a separate thread. It's a fascinating recording worthy of discussion not getting lost in a thread dedicated to a set that has a bazillion other tracks.

I totally agree. In fact each new track on the set should be allowed it's own thread. What harm would it do. I knew the other thread would be locked.

"At a given bitrate" is the key to that bolded text. Which would matter if the source wasn't an old tape from 1982. Which was the point of my post.

Better compression and more disc space isn't going to have any real affect on this release.

They can do lossless audio and have a negligible impact on picture quality, same as the DVD included with PRD. The biggest issue with that disc is that they didn't deinterlace it. They just left it as is.

The harm it would do is obvious - folks would be more keen to discuss Prince's music & more in greater detail without fear that it's just going to get lost in massive thread about a much wider topic. Can't have that! wink

Expense? Physical media is dying?.More people buy DVD over Blu-Ray and 4k, still to this day. I think that's crazy but people are lazy idiots that don't upgrade. But something filmed in 1982 on video and not film being put on a better format is a pointless waste of time for everyone.

I’d be cool if they’d do something like offer a digital single download of Extraloveable with a preordered 1999 Deluxe. Throw us a purple nugget. I realize we’ll likely never get an official release. Wish the elites would take a purple leak on us...
