Is there a confirmed single going to be released out of the previously unreleased songs? I kind of wonder if Turn It Up, Purple Music, or anything else hold GR radio air play.

I get about 200 songs in the mail each month for my mobile business from a company called Top Hits USA. They mainly are for radio stations but also service mobile DJ's. All the songs are radio edits. On one of the most recent discs I got "1999 (Live in Detroit 1982)". So I assume that is considered the first single. Strangely enough it runs 8:37 which is much longer than most of the songs on those discs. I'll keep watching to see if any of the unreleased studio songs get included any time soon.

Nice! Is that on a standalone Prince 'single' or a compilation with other Top Hits?

They are compilation discs. It is the "Bonus" track on a CD that contains Adult Contemporary, CHR and Country hits.

Very interesting, I hadn’t really thought of one of the live tracks as a single. That would be cool, but it’s hard to see that live version of 1999 taking off. Do you think the live DMSR or live Uptown could get radio airplay or other promotional success? Those are two great songs that didn’t get much attention from the general audience.
.
I’m psyched to hear this release and whatever singles might be.

Let's be real, no live track is gonna be successful in this day and age. Especially not an 8+ minute one. You'd be hard pressed to find any track on the album to garner all that much attention from mainstream radio. Releases like this don't really catch fire that way.

Possible a remixed song ala MJ's Love Never Felt So Good could do something. But this is a release for the fans.

Meanwhile, while you were not watching, things happened in the background: a certain company named bol (bertelsmann online or something) needed some liquidity now and changed the pricing of the Super Deluxe Edition 5CD+DVD to 88 99.

(up from ~€65)

The vinyl went to 239.

i hope "vagina" sounds like 'make up' and 'annie christian' smile

but i have a weird feeling that all the tracks we don't know yet are kinda like 'velvet kitty kat'
in that they don't have the actual 1999 album feel but are rather like nice breezy little tunes,
featuring more straightforward instrumentation.

I think Vagina and Rearrange and You’re All That I Want are all in the
Prince Electro-Rock A Billy Style which he was particularly enamored with at this
time.

It's interesting how 'Vagina' is the name of a person in this song. Especially considering it's the name he originally intended for Vanity? Does anyone know if Denise Matthews was bisexual? God bless her.

It would be rather unprecedented for Prince to have recorded a 6 minute rockabilly track given his rockabilly stuff is all 3 mins or less (unless you consider "Delirious" to be rockabilly, YMMV).

Rearrange was pulled out around the time he was working on Graffiti Bridge and it probably inspired the lyrical references in New Power Generation and Can't Stop. I dunno if I think he'd be considering rockabilly at that stage in his career, though.

So which songs have NOT been heavily circualated? I would think most have except for "You're All I Want" . I've heard a few and some I haven't so I can't wait until this is released. That's where I want to hear what I haven't heard for the first time.

And also this is one song that was only ever available with pretty dire sound quality.

It was one of the first Outtakes I ever heard back in 1989 when I got my first tape of Unreleased material.

Found a little info on PrinceVault smile

Vagina is an unreleased track recorded in late 1981 or early 1982, at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The track was recorded for possible use on Vanity 6's album Vanity 6, although it is likely the project wasn't given this title at the time; "Vagina" was the name suggested by Prince for Denise Matthews when she joined the band, but she didn't like the title and agreed to Vanity instead, at which point the project was titled Vanity 6. Assumed credits are given below, but if the song was recorded prior to January 1982, it is likely that it was recorded for The Hookers line-up of Jamie Shoop and Susan Moonsie, or as a demo recording by Prince only, but this is unverified. The song is not known to have been included on any configuration of the Vanity 6 album. Engineer David Z. Rivkin has described the track as "obscene". (PrinceVault)

More great news and information about the book coming soon, I was digging out some old tapes this weekend and came across something I’ve not seen for 35 years + , effectively the bare bones of the song recorded early 80s

"Kiss Me Quick" was recorded in '79. However "Jealous Girl" and all the "Hooker" tracks could've been there if this Deluxe set was more thought.

Not really. Those songs (the demos like Jealous Girl, Make-up, Pizza, etc) were recorded during the Controversy sessions. The versions done for the V6 album were from early 1982. Remember, Controversy was completed in August and released in October. Those Hookers demos were recorded in the summer. That isn't part of the 1999 sessions as every 1999 song was recorded after Controversy was released.

Those tracks were indeed recorded during summer '81. But this project really evolved into "Vanity 6". He re-used three of the tracks that was initially intended for the Hookers (Drive Me Wild - Make-Up - Wet Dream) for the V6 album. And the songs stayed the same. The only work done to those songs were the girls' vocals and some slight effects. But the V6 project is mostly based on the Hookers project.

It is true that every "1999" song was recorded after "Controversy" was released. But he recorded some stuff back in summer '81 that appeared on "V6" (as noted above) and "What Time Is It?" ("Wild and Loose" was recorded in July '81 and had some overdubs made in January '82).
