IIRC, it was!

Yes, JFK Jr did in fact use Forever In My Life for the first dance at his wedding smile A beautiful and heartfelt love song that never gets old ❤️

Didn't Prince perform it himself?

No, Prince did not attend the wedding. They just played the song, or possibly had a band play it.
*
Prince, during his 1996 appearance on Oprah, played the beginning of the song on his Piano when Oprah asked him to play something for her. He then mentioned that JFK played it at his wedding - I think he had recently wed Caroline.

Oh and then later that night I threw in a few lines from the unreleased track, Pickle!

I've never quite understood the line: "Love is too weak to define just what you mean to me."

Considering who the song is about and when it was written, probably just a kind way of saying he cares about her a whole lot and always will whether he's in love with her or not.

It means that he loves her so much, and she means so much to him that he needs a stronger or better word than “love” to tell her how he feels about her.

Didn't Mayte do a version of TMBGITW where it was changed to "Most Beautiful BOY in the World"? Or am I just crazy, and have disremembered this? I am almost sure it was on a You Tube video...

It's true. It was on her "Child of the Sun" album.

I selected "Forever in My Life" for the wedding mix CD that we gave as a party favor at our reception. (Unfortunately, it didn't work out to be forever, but never mind that.)

^^^^^ This.
Its musicality and depth come from simple words and it doesn't ramble like "Adore" (which does nothing to me).

YES!!!! It says everything about the depth of his love without any added filler. That drum beat gets me every time. And when he did the mash up with IT and the “it’s gonna be alright” chant it just makes it the perfect love song.

You know it’s a decent love song if JFK Jr chose it as the song for the first dance at his wedding!! 😍 💜

"Forever in My Life" always felt a little egotistical to me, referring to his love in the broader context of his own life's trajectory/journey (self), whereas "Adore" is purely about the object of his affection with no caveats (or, totally about another).

Yeah, I dunno, I know everyone loves citing JFK Jr. 'til the end of time, but that first verse and the constant references to "man's journey". You really wanna start of your marriage reminding your significant other of your old days fooling around, juggling hearts, driving "a body to the ground"? Just cut to the chase and talk about her and only her.... not how you're a man merely afraid to "walk on his own".... I mean I dig the beat, but as a romantic sentiment I almost get "Cream" singing in the mirror vibes.... Telling himself "don't be afraid." This is like the song you put on the morning after your bachelor party to convince yourself to go through with it, amidst a first-verse of almost passive-aggressive self-congratulation/borderline regret.

.

I think it can be pulled off if you're a Prince, or a JFK Jr. or like... a Brad Pitt, Leo DiCaprio, Will Smith in Hitch type. Like if you're rocking that James Bond Smash Adams aesthetic. But for Joe Six-Pack man on the street it sounds a tad lofty... maybe it's just me.

Oh, I disagree. I love the confessional at the start of the song. It emphasizes the fact that he always intended to be a playboy or to “juggle hearts”, but that changed when he fell in love with her “I never imagined love would rain on me” - it’s a confessional. He’s being completely honest about his life and feelings.
*
I also think it’s far from an egotistical song. The lyrics “you are my savior, you are my light”, and “you are my hero, you are my future, when I am with you I have no past” are beautiful sentiments toward her. Not sure how much more endearing he could get.
*
The deep drumbeat and acoustic guitar combo is Prince completely stripped down, which was very unusual for him and makes it more special. It was him baring his heart and feelings. I love every live performance of this, especially the 3/87 show at First Ave. Really emotional performance.

Right--but this is why I don't really think it works for anybody who isn't a notorious playboy like a Prince, or a JFK Jr., or a suave movie star. The opening lines make it definitively about Prince in the context of Prince's life. Hardly applicable to the average Joe in a standard marriage where monogamy is the order of the day, not the exception to the rule... I mean it's worth noting the playboy qualities so exude from the lyrics that the character of the person singing song never actually did get married after all--he hopped right back into that "three-ring circus."

Yeah, but, that's much later in the song after he already reminded his future wife of the Felix the Cat endless bag of booty he's turning down in order to be with her, with the constant refrains about "man's journey."

I dunno, I feel like a more romantic sentiment would get direct to the point--the object of his affection--exactly like "Adore" does. No meandering about giving up his playboy life, just completely about love. "Forever in My Life" provides a context that feels wholly exclusive to Prince and not average dude getting married.

See I feel "Crazy You" did this aesthetic more intimate and stripped down, musically at least, and that was right at the start of his career.

He hadn’t been around enough to use the “juggling hearts” lyric in Crazy You though. I love the way he set it up in FIML, because he’s saying “this is where I was before I met you, but being with you has made me want to stop that”. Then he goes on to detail why he wants to be with her forever - all the things she is to him and what she brings to his life. He’s saying she is what is good in his life.

Write your own marraige vows, not the words of someone else, and save the Pricne stuff for the dance(s). I'd say make your marriage yours and personal, epescially the vows.

WE went with "The One" for the first dance and busted out "Love" later on for a groom and bridesmaids number.

In full disclosure I'm divorced now but I made it 10 years so take any advice I give with a grain of salt and, of course, do what you want.

I just can't imagine using someone else's words to express my own feelings and promises, at least on that sort of stage where the stakes are so high. I've cribbed lyrics and done "I love you" mix tapes and shit but, personally, I think your wedding should primarily be an expression of yourself.

Right. JFK Jr used FIML as the first dance song, which is great. Vows should be specific and personal to the couple and their own story.

That was handed down from God long ago
Reflected the true meaning 2 his woman every day
And she surrendered her discerning of it n2 his care and keeping
Because she trusted he would lead the right way
Her children n subjection 2 her and she n subjection 2 the wise 1
The wise 1 n subjection 2 the almighty God

I've Never felt a love that runs so deep
The way we communicate is in the way we breathe
U told me "This is the safest place u'll ever be"
So tie me down, i'm ready
I wonder if i'm the only wisdom that u seek
Open me up, i'll be the best book u'll ever read
If beauty and presence and power were the key
So, stop the car, i'm ready
I question if this is how it feels to be alive
I see ur spirit smile in between ur sighs
Pick me up, wash me down with the color of ur eyes
So if i die 2nite, i'm ready
Nothing more
Nothing more
There will never be nothing more
There is nothing
Bring out the child that resides untamed
Tho our bodies age, the fire still remains
And with each rising sun, our souls interwoven and this is what i call Heaven
And there's nothing more
There is nothing
There is nothing

Nothing More - Andy Allo
