Now, how many who say “Hell no” would still go if it happened? My money is on most of you.

I wouldn´t go.

I´ve seen Prince live so many times and a hologram could never even close to seeing him live on stage.

But my main reason for not wanting to see a hologram is simply that he was against such ideas.

I know it sounds silly because he was against many things that I have no problem with (bootlegs, his old lyrics, downloading leaked material) but I think a hologram is something I can easily do without and respect his wishes.

Strive

They already fucked up by playing a vocal track on the Questlove produced tour but an actual hologram would be the ultimste slap in the face. Being made a slave in death.

GW: With digital editing, it is now possible to create a situation where you could jam with any artist from the past. Would you ever consider doing something like that?

0{+> : Certainly not. That's the most demonic thing imaginable. Everything is as it is, and it should be. If I was meant to jam with Duke Ellington, we would have lived in the same age. That whole virtual reality thing... it really is demonic. And I am not a demon. Also, what they did with that Beatles song ["Free As a Bird"], manipulating John Lennon's voice to have him singing from across the grave... that'll never happen to me. To prevent that kind of thing from happening is another reason why I want artistic control.

Yet unfortunately, it will happen in time, wishes of the artist, or anything for that matter, is always superceded by the desire or promise of monetary gain. Money trumps morals, every time, all of history, and especially the world we live in right now, irrefutable proves that to be true.

It is guaranteed the future will be Prince hologram heavy. I shudder at the thought, but I am a realist, and can see the writing on the wall.

Nobody can explain what the problems with Fathom Events are? They do it for ballets, and classical concerts? Not like there isn't enough material. How many holograms are there circulating I don't know of any, maybe there's this massive market that's doing so well. Honestly I'd pass im not that curious a d i really see that kind of technology for people I don't know that much about and there isn't much "footage" of. Like the supposed Liberace museum that doesn't seem to exist yet, but i dont see me paying to see a hologram concert of the man.

I'd would never pay for a shitty hologram show. They're better of releasing full shows in movietheatres then this shitty hype with holograms. I hope it dies soon like that 3D garbage hype.

Is that technology really works?
From what I know of, it doesn't.
The MJ hologram years ago at an award, wasn't even MJ's but an impersonator.
.
So if it doesn't work, what would be the point?
But if it's well done, in let's say 40/50 years, why not? But again what would be the point in 2060?

It's a bit early yet.

But eventually, yes. It will be a good way for new fans to experience it.

I saw a Sinatra one a few years back and it was excellent. Done very tastefully and really gave a good experience of what it must have been like to be at a live gig of his.

Ok Sinatra. That's interesting. I'll have to look into that. He's just outside my generation but Ive seen him live. He'd be on that cusp for me.

Yep. And for the record, my comments are for ten future when the tech is really good. Not now. Remember when people showed off their massive tvs but the picture was shit. Twenty years later, we have 8k TVs that are massive and look amazing.

I missed out on seeing Queen live and I’d jump at the chance of seeing a realistic
Freddie Mercury on stage created from real footage.

If it’s fake footage, I can see people’s distaste. But if it’s high quality and created from actual footage, then I think that it’s just a case of technophobia for people. I’m sure there were old folks who felt the same about the phonograph when it was being introduced. “If you wanna hear music, go to the concert hall” 😂

It sounds like such a lame idea, but then, future hologram technology will presumably make the stuff we associate with this kind of tech (eg. the MJ "Slave to the Rhythm" thing) look as lame and underwhelming as the earliest mobile phones or attempts at smartphones now look to us. Not that the MJ thing even needed any comparisons with later technology to look lame, TBF.

So I guess my answer to the thread question is... a hologram tour right now or in the next few years, no. In terms of whatever might be possible in 10 or 20 years' time or beyond, that's surely like asking someone in the 1980s whether they'd want an Apple Watch. How are we in much of a position to judge either way? Lol.

And whatever seems tasteless or ghoulish to us right now, might not seem so much in whatever cultural conditions or circumstances the future brings. shrug

Coachella 2Pac looked better than MJ Hologram for whatever reason. I think it's because the MJ version mirrors my worst fear with a Prince hologram which is adorning him in all sorts of dated clothing and styles he hadn't worn in 30 years. It'll be like, "Black Sweat" performed in the purple puffy shirt. "Gett Off" in the 1999 jacket.

Ok, I looked again at a few holograms of celebrities and with the exceptions of the one with the Celine and Elvis duet I was underwhelmed, I’ll get to that one in a minute.. I don't see the point of watching a celebrity hologram vs watching them on a screen. It just comes off as doing something just to be doing something. Look what I can do. Granted I’m watching a hologram on
a screen so it’s possible I’m not getting the full impact, so I’ll have to see one live to come to a conclusion on that point. Still, watching say Mick Jagger and Christina Aguilar was basically boring as opposed to anything I’ve seen them perform on any screen, there was no spark or pazazz. I’m thinking, hey I’m watching an experimental thing, which is cool to see at a fair or
something, like watching a ginsu knife demonstration but nothing I’d pay cash to see. Definitely not something I’d watch for more than 5 minutes and be like, okay, I’ve seen that.

I watched the Sinatra one at Simon’s party, an interesting party trick for the wealth, not something that’ll garner any support or interest in my world. So far, they’ve all come off as a novelty act for the curious, something you’d used to see at a carnival, like wolf boy. The test one of Sinatra turned me off, he looked like a ghost image, I can honestly say going to see Prince looking like a ghost would severely turn my stomach, the test Sinatra kind of did, and I’ve seen that look before in movies anyway. Looking at the one with Sinatra on a screen with all the dancers twirling around reminded me of those variety shows that we used to watch on tv back in the day. Which is okay for a nice Vegas act, I can see me paying to see that for older acts but
I’m not interested in seeing Prince that way, I’m not THAT old to just want to sit and clap politely. I want that adrenaline, that energy, that sweat, the excitement at the sight of Prince, still. I wanna scream and act a damned fool.

Now the Celine and Elvis duet, that looked like those 2 rehearsed the crap out of that duet when you know damned well that wasn’t possible, that was professional. But that’s not a tour, that was a one off performance. In my minds eye I started seeing folks getting lazy, lacking motivation trying to do a tour. Getting sloppy and loose. AND THAT’S THE PROBLEM. Prince wouldn’t be there to be the wonderfully glorious a-hole that so many associates have
complained about to bring that A game which we all have grown accustomed to. Who in all this is motivated to bringing the supreme performance each time over making a quick buck? Nobody goes above and beyond to showcase Wolfie the dog-boy, the novelty act, definitely not in today’s world.. Can you imagine the expense of making one of Prince’s entire concerts a hologram, band and all AND going on tour with that? How many of us could afford that ticket?
Just put one of his most electrifying concerts on a screen so us common folk can revel in it and let the rich pay out the nose for the party trick.

biggrin I see, I see.

But willl the hologram sign autographs? How will the hologram react if we bring our phones into the venue? If you slide a cd-r onto the stage, will hologram demand you retrieve it? biggrin

So many questions... biggrin

How about just crank up a DVD/blu-ray of a gig in the comfort of your living room with some snacks?

At least you know the guy in the feature was real at the time of filming.
