1982/1983 Radio friendly version of LRC?

How exactly did daytime radio clean up the heavy breathing and "girl got an ass" part of Prince's "Little Red Corvette" back then?

I read that radio used to, on a thread with PEJ, toots, and OldFriends4Sale. Radio here of course doesn't bother to clean it up anymore.

Radio/7" edit fades before that part so it didn't come up!

Where? I haven't heard an edit for LRC that short! Vanity 6 "Nasty Girl" fades damn early on the 45, before she even gets to say "I don't like this groove".

LRC fades after the chorus following I'm gonna try to tame your little red love machine, no? It's still relatively dirty for 1982 radio but it just about gets away with it.

The 3:08 7" edit of "Little Red Corvette" made its first CD appearance on 4Ever in 2016. I believe it's the same version used in the promo video, no?

Edit: I double-checked on discogs and remembered it was also previously available on a CD single reissue of "1999".

My radio station 93.1 Cleveland played the whole song back then. I actually still have an old tape of LRC extended that I recorded from the radio station

Yeah, back then the stations had independent policies. They said they played it at night though.

I think they would just end the song early. I can remember back then hearing those lyrics only rarely on NY radio. They would play that part, just very rarely. I distinctly remember this because the part at the end when he sings 'girl you got an ass like I've never seen...and the ride, I said the ride is so smooth...you must be a limousine...little red corvette' is my favorite part of the song; I hated when they would edit that part out of the song!

I recorded it during the day on a sunday morning I remember because it was after the tom joyner top 40 show in 1988. I just happen to record it and low and behold it was the special dance mix version to my surprise because that was the first time I heard the 12 inch version.
