Did Prince influence any part of your personality or behaviour to a large extent?

When I think about this it affects me deeply. I dug P from 82 onwards [one of 'those' fans!] so I was in my prime early teen years. When I look at myself now I can't help but think about how P influenced aspects of me as a person..maybe I already had these traits BUT I am damn sure that buying in totally to the Purple universe affected me. I can easily point to these qualities:

Work ethic - never forget this quote when he said he treats it as his job ie long hours & totally driven.

Independence - I have an almost obessional need to be free, i don't take orders

Strut! - I hear funk ..i strut! don't ask..the pimp walk just appears!

Hey P...Thank you.x.

No.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No. My personality and behavior is my own, just like Prince's was his own. Prince had no influence over no part whatsoever, I just loved his music.

As someone who's read this board since I was like 13, I gotta say, everyone here has a little bit of Prince in their candor or communicative style, whether it's something conscious or subconscious is another subject entirely.

I've always frequented band or musician forums.... their fanbases are always similar to the artists in some facet or quality. It makes sense. Something you love dearly enough to read and post about it in your spare time for years isn't going to have "no influence over no part whatsoever," c'mon.

How many hours of life have some of us spent in Prince land? For that to have no influence...? k.

Yes, he influenced me to be more creative in my thinking. Helped me to be more bolder about it.

I dont know about a LARGE influence but his behavior has definitely had a part in my upbringing. I was a adamant atheist until P. I still don't subscribe to any personal organized religion but P has opened up my eyes to the positives of ALL faiths. Hes also helped me to understand business practices, specifically artistic business practices. So there's that. I also used to suffer imposter syndrome in my art. Hearing how he put much lesser talents in the spotlight with his "you can do it!" credo helped to give me confidence for sure.

I am not sure if he influenced me or reinforced what was already there. I could definately identify with him as a young teenager back in the eighties. I was also struggling with religion and sexuality, I was a small guy like him, with a strong feminine side but with a sexual preference for women just like Prince, and I was an aspiring musician. I liked his flair and his entourage of beautiful women. He made me realise as a small guy you can still be sexy and cool.

What I love most about Prince is the fact that he made a lot of his records all by himself, this was likely the stongest influence he had on me. The realisation that you could make complete records on your own.

I answer the phone 'what it is?', my phone phone number is 7779311, I write 2, 4 and U without thinking, when I swear and my someone pulls me up I say 'tell em it's chinese' and when I ask a friend to meet me or attend something, I far too frequently follow it up with 'Don't forget to bring a girlfriend'.

So yes, the damn guy infected me. lol

At a deeper level, as a teenager in the 1980's, I think he tought me think outside the box and not take my parental or societal definition of 'normal' as a given.

No. But we're kinda alike. Except that I'm not a genius, nor know how to play music. I'm just a lazy poet. razz

No. Simply because I didn't know Prince on a personal level, as oppose in knowing of him based on his brilliant and genius artistry.

I once changed my name to a photo of Rita Hayworth. I don't know if that counts?
